Mantis Knives - Not what I expected (long story with cliffs)

I was cleaning out my basement and noticed a letter that I had long forgotten about. It was from Mantis knives.

Long story:
Karambits were the first knives that I really enjoyed when I started knife collecting but I couldn't afford the more expensive ones (emerson, spyderco, tarani, etc) so I went with a mantis karambit. I think it cost me about 40 dollars. I used and abused it for a while and it served me okay. It's definitely not the most quality knife but for the $40 dollars I spent it was pretty good (and at the time it was better than any mall ninja knife my friends had). The blade was pretty dull towards the end of my use and it developed some serious play. As a new knife owner I was pretty upset so I sent it in for repair and also wrote them a letter saying I was a bit disappointed that the knife was failing on me and was really interested in their new model karambit (I had the older alphonse karambit and they recently released a newer updated one called the encore). I didn't feel comfortable buying another one if the knife was going to fail on me though. About two weeks later I got a package back with a brand new karambit (the newer alphonse model I mentioned I wanted) and hand written paragraph. Mantis knives apologized that my knife was not functioning as it should so they sent me the newer karambit to make up for it. If I was not happy with it they would either send me my previous knife (fixed) or issue a refund. They thanked me for being a customer and giving them a chance to right their wrong.

This was a while ago, but I just wanted to tip my hat to the mantis knife company. I don't know if their service is like this for everyone (and after spending some time on the forums not too many people talk about them) but I definitely say  for the way I was treated. Unfortunately most of their designs don't appeal to me right now so I don't have any of their knives (nor will I in the future) but I just wanted to share my story because sometimes a company can really surprise you.

Cliffs:
Abused my Mantis knife
A+ Customer service
Would do business with again

Like many, I have my extreme reservations about Mantis, but it's good to hear that they're taking care of their customers.

Out of all of the bad things I have heard about Mantis, I have heard one instance of poor CS, and dozens of great experiences. Some of their things are suspect (I bet they totally have a bunch of a no longer made steel  ), but the customer support is usually awesome.

I know some of their knives are honest with materials (namely ones with lower end steels like 420HC and AUS-8) so if you stick with those and don't get a lemon you should be set.

It's nice that their customer service seems to be good, but their knives appear to be form over function from my perspective; they don't make a single product that appeals to me, so I won't be a customer of theirs.

If gecko45 trusts mantis, so do I.

Had a hearty chuckle.
