Checked my email, as this new Mantis knife pop up and I can't help thinking that it looks incredibly familiar. I was thinking one of the Browning's that MCusta or Moki made for them but can't track it down. Its bugging the hell out of me though. Does it look familiar to anyone else?

I'm not a Mantis fan, and how exactly they got their "gray finished titanium" handle to match the screw heads exactly without it being Ti coated steel is beyond me I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks they've seen this knife with another name before.

Some google-fu sleuthing and the pot thickens:

Hmmmmmmmmmm... :rolleyes::thumbdn:

Wow, that's way to similar. Don't think I'll be buying one of these.

The handles are all clearly ripoffs of capuchin knives from the Pyrenees. So I guess it was Boker who started it.

Ding Ding Ding, I definitely recognized it from A. G.'s site/catalog.

Also the various MSRPs on this thing are just bonkers.

Boker wants 60ish with their ceramic blade

AG has them at 90ish with etched ceramic to look like damascus

Mantis wants 190ish for the damascus (with no actual steel composition listed...)

Off the top of my head, it made me think of the Colt CT591.

THIEVES!!II!

Let it rest, knifenuts. Knives are copied. Shocking, I know. Hurt feelings and bedwetting over this reality are pointless.

Nah, no design stealing methinks. Perhaps they were just all assembled in the very same facility with like parts, given different blade finishes and names, and sent to their respective companies? :D

I'm guessing I might be a little late to this party.

Its a decent looking knife presented in a wide variety of handle materials, lock types and blade steels (even blade not-steels!). Whats to get upset about? In the not so distant past knives were rarely made by the company that had their name on it. Plus as far as I can tell it was never anything other than a Chinese knife, probably made by the same factory the whole time. Its not like they are claiming it to be something it isn't.

Even the price gouging is pretty standard with Mantis and is IMO a buyer beware thing at this point.

I just did a double take when I saw it since it looked too familiar to be on a "new and exciting" email.

Including a picture of the Colt version for yucks:

I'll bet you could have the same factory make YOU this ultra-generic knife with any slogo (slogan and/or logo) you want. You could probably get one that says "Happy 18th Birthday Jimmy!" for the price of the Mantis. And you could probably get a choice of plain or fauxmascus steel too.

I posted street price, the actual msrp of that glorious Mantis: $275

I think that the Proffesor was correct.

All bought from the same maker in China in such small numbers that tooling cost were avoided
