Everybody seems to be talking about the mantra 2, but I want to know what people's experiences are with the Mantra! How do you all like em? I think they are very appealing as they have the classic spyderc look, AND they are flippers. I have yet to purchase one, however.

I've got one just yesterday, feels like a grown up, dressed up Delica. That's a good thing. :D Flipping action is good, the M4 steel is very impressive, came very sharp, didn't feel the need to touch up the edge.

Just picked one up and I think it's fantastic. Essentially a custom Delica to me. For which I feel the price is quite fair, the premium materials with the level of fit and finish is a winning combination.

I'm not super crazy about the internal stop pin but it's really a non issue

Originally I was interested in the Mantra 2 but the Mantra 1 has been growing on me. I like the idea of multiple deployment methods and that blade shape is just oh so fantastic for slicing.

I have has one for several days, and really do like it. I'd say it's my favorite Spyderco in my collection (of course, I probably say that about all of my most recent purchases). But seriously, it is an awesome little flipper. To me, it is like a Tenacious and a Delica (or maybe a Caly 3) hooked up and had a titanium flipper baby. Fit and finish are great and the flipping action is good. Definitely a keeper!

Sounds like it's a great little knife! Has anybody experienced this problem with weak detent that I have been hearing about?

I wonder how much the Mantra will cost once it's been out for a while. It's rather expensive now..

When I first saw the specs I figured this one would go for closer to $200. I think $165 for a full ti framelock flipper in m4 is a pretty square deal.

The detent isn't as strong as the one on my Domino, bit it is stronger than on my Southard. I would like it to be slightly stronger, but it isn't bad at all.

The Mantra looks great and the price is very reasonable. I really would love to grab one someday. But what I don't understand why everyone is talking about the mantra 2, it looks like a folding kitchen knife. U-L-G-Y

I feel the same way... The mantra 2 looks like a messed up Southard.

I guess the price is reasonable like everyone is saying, if you take into consideration the fact that it is a titanium framelock.

I think one of the attractions of the Mantra 2 is that Spyderco doesn't have so many slim profile knives like that.

That's definitely a reason I am looking into it. Also, the rather short blade is also very attractive, since I am looking for a smaller size EDC because all my other knives are 3.5+, and it's nice to have a small knife when you live in California, where you get strange looks if you have a knife. 3 inches is a great smaller EDC size anyway.

 :D ULGY or UGLY - say it ain't so .

That's why we love Spyderco - VARIETY - in knives and in Spyderco KnifeKnuts.

I like them both too BUT the MANTRA looks like just another Spyderco knife. The MANTRA 2 on the other hand - and to my eye - looks new - one might say - innovative and pretty too . Now that I own one, I love that it carries so lightly and discreetly and the 3" slender/pointy blade makes it an excellent user for me. Just sayin' - I'm really liken' it  :D

And here is my post with comparisons to the Delica (with photos too) - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1358032-Mantra-2?p=15648597#post15648597

Really liking the mantra in edc use. I think it's a fantastic value for what you get. You get a pm2 length cutting edge in a Delica handle. Carries wonderfully in the pocket and excels in my usage.

I wouldn't mind a slightly stronger detent, but I tend to prefer a stronger detent than most on my knives. Here's a few comparison pics.

Can someone put some input on how the mantra compares with the Domino/Dice. Those two knives have caught my attention also, and I'm not sure which will be best for me.

Thanks

I have the mantra and the dice. The mantra is much thinner in profile and a slightly better slicer due to a longer and thinner blade. They have similar flipping action. I would say the detent on both of them is definitely on the weaker side especially compared to something like a ZT but with the correct method they both flip well. Honestly I think they are both great knives and you would be happy with either one. As far as the domino goes it really is the exact same knife as the dice just a larger scale. It carries much larger than the previous two blades though. I think it really just comes down to which one looks better to you. Also Keep in mind the mantra is made of m4 which does require more maintenance. Without proper care it can rust and patina since it is high in carbon.
