What are their "powers" outside of their own manufacturer subforum?

Are they empowered to give out infractions or "steer" threads outside of their subforum?

Sorry Marcinek, i'ma haft to infraction you for mod sas.

I'm not a mod, but I'm just going to take that authority on......

Grrrr! :D

I was under the impression that a manufacturer mod's powers were supposed to be limited to their forum.

Of course I have been wrong many, many times before, and if a manufacturer mod can, in fact, come into General and moderate the posts in a thread discussing their product, I would like to know, just to avoid any possible actions taken.

Kinda changes the kind of opinions one might want to share, you know?

"The More You Know", right?

Good questions, I'm interested in knowing as well.

If a forum specific mod can infract anywhere then I assume they can also ban people anywhere?

I thought super mods had the "everywhere" power...

The admin (and maybe the super mods) will have access to the control panel/permission's page to grant and take away powers from anyone.

Someone upstairs may have decided it would be poetic justice to let the CS rep award an infraction in general because of the post content.

I'm not going to disagree with that...the infraction was well-deserved.

But, it would be nice to know if that was the case, or if reps are empowered to act outside their forum without permission, or if they are not.

Any of those three scenarios are going to affect the topics discussed in General, and it would seem quicker to just let us know, instead of issuing infractions until dummys like me piece together the policy based on them.

I do not think this case will give those mods the right to bully topics in general.

I certainly hope not, but there is one way to ensure that, and that is to limit their powers to their subforum.

And if that is not the policy, then that is not the policy. That's fine. I will adjust any future negative comments made in GKD about a manufacturer accordingly.

Just would like to know.

Gee, it sure would be nice to know what everyone is talking about.
Hypothetical problems get vague and unsatisfactory answers.

Manufacturer forum mods can ban members in their forums. But the ban might not hold, because we hate to lose a member who is cool everywhere else. It's happened.

IIRC, any moderator has the software ability to give an infraction in any forum. But they usually only infract in their own forum.

Had I seen the post in question, I would have given more than a warning. That comment was out of line in any forum aside from W&C.

Thank you. I'm not at all questioning the infraction, I am asking if who made it had the right to, and it appears that they do.

I will keep that in mind when discussing manufacturers who have a subform and mod/rep here.

So, may I ask what difference is there between a regular mod and super mod?

Super mods get a cape when promoted. :D

Reg mods are Red
Supers are Blue..:D

Red mods don't have options outside their own forums except to infract from what I can see.
My assumption is, that I leave the business of the regular forum up to the Supers- Maybe a spammer that needs to be taken out.
Otherwise, I leave it alone..

A regular mod can infract outside of his specific forum, but it is very unusual for that to happen. Supers infract in all of the regular forums as needed as part of their expected function of general oversight.

Supers have added software permissions which the regular mods do not have.

We'll take all the help we can get dealing with spammers. :)

It's extremely unusual for a manufacturer forum mod to take action outside their forum. This isn't because they aren't trusted but it's a matter of perspective. Many people here (including mods) spend the majority of their time in one forum. They understand the forum-specific culture or "tone" and are often the best judge of what action to take and when to take it. A good example is the Political Arena. There are times when I'm fully committed to handing out yellow and red cards en masse but I don't because the PA mods are active. I'm looking at a specific post and might not be aware of how a situation developed and could inadvertently be unfair as I missed the first foul and caught the retaliation. Manufacturer mods set the tone for their respective forums and because of that focus, might not be the best judge of activity outside their sandbox. In this case, a warning was gentle. I think this particular event was a one off and not a reason for concern.

Thanks for your take, Morrow.

Ive never seen a manufacturer rep/mod tske action outside their subform before, let alone one take action against someone discussing their company outside their subfoum.

No doubt you can see the potential, however remote, of a conflict of interest there. Or at least I did.

I'm confident we will continue to be able to speak freely (within the rules of course) about manufacturers and makers in places like GKD and GBU without fear of the mods for those manufacturers and makers taking action on us.

Thanks again to you and the rest of the mods who took time to address my questions/concerns.

There is one supermod who is red. He knows who he is. ;)
