Manufacturers' biggest boners.

There must be some fear in some manufacturers that if they came out with a new knife, it would sell so many that no one would buy anything else.

That's the only reason I can think of for their not creating some better products that are only a LITTLE different from what they already make.

My two:

Fallkniven U-2 with a THREE inch blade.
Victorinox One Hand Trekker with a POCKET CLIP.

Any others?
:)

I totally agree with the OHT with a clip. I'm still baffled why the BM AFCK got cut.

There is a Wenger Ranger variant very similar to the OHT with a pocket clip out for 2008. It was spotted at the SHOT show, I believe. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that you can see a pic on their site.

With all of the companies making knives out there, I always find it interesting how many people can't get exactly the knife they want. I have gone to custom makers because what I want is not quite available from Benchmade, Kershaw, Spyderco, or SOG.

In fact, even with the custom makers you probably have to make some concessions, because they naturally want to do a variation of an existing model.

I think the manufacturers biggest mistake is that they don't offer options for their models. You can get a car with auto or manual transmission. You should be able to get a knife with assisted or not, flipper or not, etc.

Wutitiz---I can relate. At least with Tom Krein and his services, I can get the grind I want!

I wish Case would discover the pocket clip as well. Sure, there are several "classics" that wouldn't lend themselves to having a clip put on them, but several of their models would look fine IMO. I know of only one model they make with a clip (folding hunter) and it's bigger (thicker) than I would like in an EDC.

My complete and total ideal folder is a titanium framelock with a 3.5 inch blade, round hole opener and low carry pocket clip with provisions for tip up or tip down carry. Oh, and I want the option of plain or fully serrated as well.

I thought Benchmade had made it with the mini skirmish, but the ergonomics of that particular knife were such that my fingers naturally fell on the frame lock bar and the tightness of my grip actually prevented it from opening!

My personal WTFs. . .

BM discontinuing the 806D2 AXIS.

BM ever making an AXIS with Right hand only carry.

Case not continually keeping a repro of the V-42 combat dagger in production. Why I can't get a large Stockman, Trapper or Texas Toothpick in CV.

Why I can't get a SAK with a pocket clip. Why I can't get an alox Vic with a corkscrew.

Why Ka-Bar won't make a tougher tanged F/UK. The generation two gets rid of the annoying top guard but keeps the weak stick tang in 440A and D2.

Why CRKT won't make at least one M-16 (M-21) model in a real supersteel as a regular item.

I wonder why benchmade discontinued the AFCK in any variation
I wish Spyderco would not have discontinued the Manix
I am sure there are more things, but thats all I can think of off the top of my head

Yeah, what's up with the AFCK? Would be on the top of my list if I could find one.

I wish Benchmade did not discontinue the Ares.

I wish Buck did not discontinue the standard Duke 500.

I wish Benchmade hadn't discontinued the 690. IMHO, it was one of the best looking production folders ever made.

+1 on that. if I didn't already have one, I'd be mighty sad. they need to bring back the BC1 coating, too, since it's just so darn pretty. and M2. and and and...
among boners that are allowed to continue: autoLAWKS. CRKT, whiskey tango foxtrot? LAWKS is great, but the automated feature huffs mad dong.

Why did BM turn the gorgeous 910 into the thumbstudded, pimped out assisted opener?
Why did Spyderco stop making the FRN Calypso Jr/Why didn't MORE people buy them..

Why did the 806 get disco'd instead of using a lower graded steel (154cm for example) to lower cost?

When will Victorinox discover pocket clips for the 111mm models?

Why do some outdoors knives come with liner locks rather that lock backs or framelocks (Spyderco Military, Impala, Emerson models)

Why does Emerson still use the flat grind tanto when a v-grind may be better for field use?

When will some companies make regular pouches for knife carry versus zippered ones?
