In a Manufacturer's Forum having no moderator, who establishes and maintains the "local rules" of that forum? Stuff like off-topic chat, conducting individual sales/buys, appropriate language, "trolling," etc?

I would imagine "general BF behavior" would be taken care of by supermods, but what about the stuff "individual" to that specific forum?

Thanks, but it would be nice to get some idea of the rules, so as to not bother the mod staff with unnecessary reports.

Like for a off topic chat thread, for example. That would not be allowed in General, and would be allowed in a Manufacturer's Forum if the mod/manufacturer rep allowed it.

In a manufacturer's forum without a mod/rep, do the member users of the forum get to decide if that would be allowed? Or do "General Knife Discussion" forum rules apply?

Always curious to learn more about the rules!

And where did the "You can have a manufacturer forum only if they provide a mod/rep." thing go? It seems like folks are always asking about Benchmade, etc forums, and that has always been the stock reply.

Has that changed?

You should have someone from the company, an insider like Ellie, as a moderator. You can also have a company representative to keep up with day to day discussions.

"Should" or "must"? Or do they have a rep/mod that is not listed. Or does the mod not have to be an employee of the company?

I guess my point, again, is that I were one of the many members who asked "Why isn't there a <fill in the blank> forum?" and was told that "<Blank> can have a forum if they supply a mod." I would be a bit perturbed.

Particularly with the talk of the members choosing a mod from among members.

The more you know! Right!?

Or this....

All wrong answers. Search the FAQ for "manufacturer" anf find this:

Manufacturers Forums

BladeForums.com is proud to offer industry Manufacturers the ability to have live interaction with their customer base. Our sole requirement for this service is that the manufacturer provide official company representation. We also encourage that the manufacturers* help contribute to the community by providing products for our support giveaways & auctions.

BladeForums.com provides a powerful tool in the customer service world, and can be a tremendous boost to your company's public image. With proper customer service personnel & a willingness to interact with your end user base, you will not be disappointed in the results.

I don't see [Company X] represented, why not?

We do not provide "unofficial" company or "fan" forums for any*manufacturer. In order for there to be a dedicated forum for any specific company, they must show the willingness to take part in the discussion.

If you do not see your favorite manufacturer listed here, visit their website and contact them by phone or email, and request that they join in. If enough of their customers have a demand for it, they will come.

As I said here, they should have a company rep. as the first moderator. The Survive! Knives forum currently doesn't have one and we don't know why but we're trying to find out. At this point, Spark is likely the only one who knows what's up.
