I missed doing anything last year and blamed it on the weather. I am once again tentatively going to set up at least something (knives and a handful of swords&books). I'm getting old or something and my motivation is down a bit flying solo but it's good to air some stuff out. The younger guys are doing couples stuff on weekends now. Ironic, in that the fellow first inviting me down there had been in it 100%. Time changes priorities.

Once I start loading, I always have trouble not grabbing another box or bag. Maybe just the militia swords this year.

I will update that Friday but I'm somehow praying for rain. What a lousy attitude :hyuk: We'll see. Anyway, Road Island at its best on the first weekend of fall. Get off my duff and just do it.

Cheers

Is this mic on? ;)

Long range weather is looking promising and I am running out of excuses not to show at least a few swords.

One early forecast was showing an inch of rain for the 22nd but I may have had the wrong state. I'll only know for sure, if I have actually loaded some stuff.

Aside from feeling lousy after a jawbreaker episode, I'm as able as I'll ever be for now.

Last eagle in and would be one of a few swords not in the distant storage. A coupe of militia swords, a European cuttoe, an m1832 artillery sword, another spadroon and a 17th century feldegen would easily get gathered here. My main cache is less easily at hand but I'll know next week if I load out a large horde. The knives would be there.

Hope y'all have good weather next weekend. Wish I was close enough to attend. I was in Newport in 1986, but I don't think the festival was going back then.

I shot in a few Archery tournaments at the gun club in Manville.

The weather is looking really good right now. I have a tentative list to display but much reduced even from 2017. Period stuff will include a trio of cruciform type militia swords, a 17th century walloon/feldegen, a circa 1800 hunting sword, a US m1832 artillery short sword and an early 19th century eagle pommel spadroon.

I may be back in more complete swing next year but to be honest, the modern knives seem to get more attention. I done got old. My main cache is 20 minutes away and I just can't get behind a big effort right now.

Cheers

I'm sure there are some people there, some kids too perhaps, who are enchanted by the swords, and develop a lifelong fascination. I wish a display like yours had been around when I was a kid, in fact I wish I could go to see that sword display now! :D

The display will end up abbreviated this year. Most systems are go but I'm just ill prepared again this year to duplicate other year's displays. The plan tomorrow is to maybe print out material for the few that will be there. My overall goal this year is still to get stuff out of storage but if I load out some this week, I'd end up loading out more than I can deal with. I hope to have something like 2017 ready for next year. Even that was just a taste and folk looking for the reproductions were largely disappointed. Even the knives going will be less, as I won't bother tabling some I'll never sell.

It is very much a family and youth event for the local neighbors and occasionally an eager scout or novice fencer. I'll have the rapiers out next year and the other reproductions. Then a rotating display of something. I don't have the partners in crime anymore, or I would load out a lot more. We used to cover viking to 20th century genre.

So, just a half dozen swords. The EGW knives and a few possibles. Claw and ball daggers, old United Cutlery horsehead dirks. I did pick up a couple of sgain dubh from a fellow named Nathan Taylor, who has done a bunch of rustics and bowies. I almost bought another Vince Evans knife and my pair along with a Kevin Cashen, Bone and a Deleon rounding out the custom with a couple of Randall Gilbreath. My latest Gilbreath may not even go. Not a sale ad really but what one might expect to see.

A look in my work bucket has most of my ready needs all set to go.

A manageable mess that I'll try to make appealing. The big dha may or may not go.

Why am I still doing a rain dance ?8^)~
