Woo Hoo! Sent a little piece of paper to Uncle Bill, and hopefully he'll get it soon and send me a khukuri! Doesn't sound fair, does it?

Thanks to everyone for the great advice, the one I ordered is large, polished, and has a curved blade! Bwah hah hah hah hah!!!! I've been wanting to say that for a while. :D :D

It's going to be a Malla. While I don't have buyers remorse, the AK and the WWII's STILL look good to me, though. Maybe a camp knife (AK) and a WWII for patriotic purposes?

Are palpations, sweating, and itchy palms part of HIKV?

It looks like you've caught a good case of it, all right, but you won't regret it!;)

The Malla is a really great medium sized khuk. I think it was originally more a weapon, but it'll do a little of everything. You'll like it.:D

Swede we all know what you're doing here by not getting a Chitlangi, YCS or other beautifully fullered light blade for self defense.
This is just an excuse for getting them further down the trail when you can honestly say, "But I really 'need' one of those because they will work better for what I have in mind.";) :p  :D

You sly devil you.:D

Are palpations, sweating, and itchy palms part of HIKV?

Yup!!!! :D

Yep - either you have HIKV, or your mailman is from DC, and has infected you with something that CAN be cured  You WILL love the Malla. That is both a promise, and an order. I've just barely rounded the sharp tip of the butt cap on mine (while sanding the handle for oiling), but not enough to change the shape. If you grip it "saber" style, like a Bowie, etc., the tip of the butt cap will bite. As your fingers exercise different muscles (or the same muscles differently  ) the ball of your thumb will begin to slide to the side just enough to avoid it. You will find yourself gripping the handle with two fingers on either side of the ring on the handle, and moving forward with just one finger between the ring and the butt cap at times. Your fingers will get stronger, and they will learn to control the blade. You've probably seen it in other posts - "Let the Khukuri teach you". This is the essence of the knife. The handle shape is years and years old. Everything on it has a real purpose, as well as the stated symbolic ones. I believe the symbolism may have been invented to help keep the handle features intact all this time, because the handle works. Eventually you will begin to switch from saber to reverse grip, one-handed. DO THIS SLOWLY!! Don't rush it, and the knife will show you how. The Malla and the Gelbu Special do this almost automatically for me, now, but let the lady lead this particular dance step, or wear heavy, steel toed hip length boots  Once you master the feel of the Malla, it will be the one you reach for, no matter how many others are there. The GS is only a hairs-breadth behind it. You really should have a GS, too

Thanks guys, many good tips. I really appreciate all the advice, that's one thing I really like about the "cantina"! I'll be practicing, and post pictures of the stitches!

I wish I were half as clever as you think, Yvsa, but I'm taking notes...;) :D :D
