The Chitlangi Bowie arrived today. It is quite impressive, and fits my hand just about perfectly.
The grip size is large enough to work well in any of three extensions, and the hefty blade is a great confidence builder. Also happens to be decently sharp, more so than I was expecting.
VERY happy with it, thanks again for your patience and your help in getting it to me. :D

Great news, thank you Denis

I already enjoy the design & haven't even had a chance to do anything with it yet. :)
It'll go to Mr. Puckett for a more substantial sheath sometime during the winter, for left-side carry, if he's still in business.
The handle seems out of proportion to the blade in looking at it, but in hefting the critter I can find those three extensions to fit different workloads that should make it a fairly handy knife. Better so in a couple areas than a more traditional large Bowie type with a smaller grip-to-blade ratio.
With hand fully forward against the guard, it's good for the "whittling" or shaving (pointed sticks or stakes, etc) function, with hand in the more natural middle position it's good for moderate chopping, slicing or dicing, and with the hand fully to the rear and the little finger behind the pommel, it puts more weight & leverage out front for a bit heavier chopping if necessary. Not sure how much of that the palm could take with the top point of the pommel digging in with each whack, but I may round off that point a little to reduce the digging.
Not the absolute best tool for any of the three single applications, but a good general purpose blade for multiple uses.
Should work quite well in taking down 2-4 inch trees for firewood or shelter if needed, and in light limbing. Could be pushed harder, but for that stuff I use a saw.
Really like the large grip size.

I agree that that is a beautiful model. Great snag. Can't wait to see pics.

Awesome. This is exactly why I designed it with the full size Chitlangi handle. I was very pleased when I received the prototype that the handle allowed these different positions like I had hoped.

It is amazing what a brutal chopper this thing becomes when you choke down to the bottom of the handle, and also how civilized it becomes when choking up towards the guard.

Here is the original concept rendering that I came up with and also a couple of pictures of the finished prototype. I think Kumar did an awesome job of creating almost the exact blade I had originally envisioned. I am glad more people are enjoying this design!!

I pop in & out here every once in a while & stumbled across the CB a few weeks ago, didn't know the history behind it. If you were the designer, you did good!
I emailed Yangdu asking if it was going to be a regular offering, she said to check back in a month, I did, she said she had one & didn't know when any more were coming. I got it, obviously.
Mine has a Rakachandan (?) wood grip. Prefer it to the horn that can shrink or crack, even though I do like the looks of the horn more.
Delighted with the knife.

Hi Denis, nice to see you posting here. :) Congrats on the new knife. I really want to get my hands on one soon. What do they cost? (I've totally spaced that out:foot:)

lefthandblack, It's a sweet design, was dreaming about it Wednesday night. I really want one when I get the cash! Love it, love it, love it!!

Right on, is it a chiruwa handle? I would love to see one in wood. You gotta take some pics :D .

Hi Heber,
$135. Would make a great Nebo Cougar knife.
The sheath is much better in materials & construction than the three khukris I have from HI, leather is softer & not dry & brittle like those were. Feel bad about the wasted effort by whoever made it, but while perfectly serviceable it doesn't fit my needs.
Puckett, where are you?!?! :)

Left,
Full tang, wood panels. My preference for strength.
UB is Kumar?

UB stands for "Uncle Bill"

The maker is Kumar.

Chiruwa style handles are my preference as well. Cant wait to see it!

Thanks Denis, Can't wait to purchase one. Hopefully this month if more come and and my car is fixed with out to much expence. I can't wait to get one... Still dreaming about it at night.

How are you testing new blades? Smashing the flats into stumps, Cutting card board, steaks, chicken, Veggies....? Reminds me, I have Dutch Oven Stew.....

;)

Heber

Last official blade test I did involved cutting three small trees down & building a tarp shelter, then chopping a three-inch dead scrub oak down & into about six sections, and then sharpening a lead pencil with it.
This one'll probably be used a bit on some scrub & brush up on the hill behind the house, then carried occasionally when the sheath gets done.
I have certain gunbelts dedicated & set up to specific gun & knife combos, I'll have to see where the CB will fit in. At my advanced age, the bigger blades tend to end up on belts for use on the ATV so I get the machine to do the carry work.
I suspect it'll show up in print somewhere next year. :)
Worked on the handle today, filed down the pommel edges to mate with the wood where they overlapped, the rivets came a little high & I took the head edges down to avoid scraping my palm. Rubbed it with linseed oil after, good for the trail now.
Lots of character!
Rub it in on the stew!
Good luck with your car.
Denis
