Night before last Yangdu, sister-in-law Sanu and her husband Nabin Karmacharya and I went to Thamel to have dinner at one of my old haunts. 30 minutes after we left the restaurant in the very street where we were walking Maoists shot and killed five policemen. Karma had its way again!

They used to call Nepal the Peaceful Kingdom! Political unrest has changed that and it is very sad, indeed.

Your prayers and well wishes may have saved us. Many thanks!

Blessings from Anamnagar and Suryabenai, Nepal!

Glad to hear that you're safe and well, Uncle. Will pray for your safety tonight. Good luck and please come back home in one piece.

Blessings on you, Yangdu, and family for being fortunate not to be present at this tragic scene. Very sad that this would happen and condolences to the five families that will be without fathers or brothers or sons, and I hope that it is just an isolated incident, but I feel this may be not the case. Continue to have a safe journey and stay in one piece, out of harm's way.

A speedy return!

Harry

Our prayers continue to be with you, Uncle Bill. I know that all we forumites are happy that you and Yangdu were able to make this journey, but I also know that we'll be especially happy when you two are safely back home.

Sounds like Dodge City instead of Nepal, or what little I actually know of Nepal. Seems like an awful lot of the world is going that way, with political or religous unrest, since the end of the Cold War.

Keep safe, and we'll "see" you in a few weeks.

Aieee!

This was my reaction to this thread title. Then I thought, "Maybe it's a joke, ha ha yes." Then I read the story.

Aieee!

Don't get killed, Uncle Bill! You are a righteous person. Be safe.

Keep your head down Uncle Bill! Be careful! You and yours are in all of our thoughts.

Blight the caustic eye, twist the running feet, break the threatening hand. Reverse the killing blade, return the stones and arrows of the wicked. Be sheltered by the wings of your God and protected by his grace.

Prayors for your safty.

Reminds me of the saying:

"_________ isn't what it used to be. And it never was."

( fill in the blank as appropriate. )

Two steps forward one step back: I moved to Mineral County Nevada in July of 1980. The then County Sheriff ( now deceased ) saw one of my rifles, and on hefting it and sighting down it's barrel stated:

"Man, that'd make one helluva coon gun!"

By the time you make progress in one area, you've lost ground while your back was turned somewhere else.

But the internet may be breaking barriers we didn't dream of. So get back safely and tell us what they don't want us to hear, Uncle Bill.

God damn, Rusty.

Hell of a story, that.

All I have to say on this whole topic is f*** Communism, and f*** Mao.

Pisses me off that our politicians won't stand up to the bastards. I don't care about the size of the Chinese market or labor force. As long as the Chinese people aren't free, the US should tell the Chinese government to go pound sand.

But then, who cares what I say anyway.
