Any of you folks ever heard of them? Maple knives?
I bought one about 8 or 9 years ago. It was cheap by this forum's standards but expensive for me at the time (most I ever spent on a knife at that time actually). It was a folder, linerlock, had some sort of black micarta handle, maybe G10, not sure, wasn't bothered at the time what it was, but felt good and grippy. I will never forget how sharp that knife was out of the box. It was the first knife I ever had in my hands that could shave. I ended up shaving my entire left arm bald and smooth with that knife (and cut myself once in the process, still have the scar). I was absolutely blown away with the knife, the quality I got and especially the sharpness of the blade. It opened smooth and fast, came with me to boarding school, and went on a few camping trips with me, processing chickens, cutting oranges, and sailing through sticks of biltong (beef jerkey to the non-South Africans on this forum) to be cut into bite size pieces. I loved that knife. Gave it to a mate of mine a few years ago and regret it. Sure it's made in china, sure it's not actually the best quality, but it had good times with me and showed me how sharp a blade must be. I miss it.
Anyway enough sob story, it wasn't until recently that I actually bothered looking up Maple knives. Hey what do you know, they actually exist, and with some nice knives too. The knife I had is long discontinued by the looks of it. Now and then I would see a maple knife in a store and think nothing more than "Oh ya decent knives" and move on, but the other day I saw one and I wish I bought it. Memories flooded my head and now I'm on a semi hunt to find one again. They make good users.
So anybody else know about Maple knives?
