I searched but could find if anyone is using (or is able to use) the portable MAPP/Oxygen cutting kits (small tank of MAPP, small tank of O2, torch handle) you find in the hardware stores for about $50. I know keeping them in fuel would be in the long run expensive -- but do they work for cutting 1/4 inch stock?
Again, thanks for the words o' wisdom!

My opinion is that you would be wasting money for cutting blade stock. A bandsaw would be more cost-effective.

The O2 bottles don't last long at all.....If you're going to
use a cutting torch, you'd be better off to bite the bullet
now....buy a larger unit, and save alot of $ in the long run.

I had one of those setups in my dorm room when I started making jewelry, a one cubic foot oxy tank was about ten bucks (1985) and lasted 2 hours with a reducing tip soldering jewelry, it was a waste of money! you will go through about 1 cubic foot of oxygen in about the time it takes to get a small area almost hot enough to cut with that rig. Bite the bullet, get an oxyacetylene rig, with 80 cubic foot oxy tank and a 60 cubic foot acetylene tank. Don't buy a Harbor freight rig, they are unsafe, buy either a Smith (all of my torches are Smith, they really are the best) or Harris (quality torch but I do not like their design) if you buy a complete rig with regulators hoses etc, you save over buying it piecemeal, I have 2 of the Smith medium rigs, one in each shop, they are worth every penny I put into them, and you can weld with them too

The MAPP torches with ignition button are great for fireworks on July 4 and New Years.
