You can't even imagine how bad this week has been to me... but miracles do happen!

I just received, what I will call, my own special "BF Native"!

David (sing) was very kind enough to give me his personal plain edge Native C41; Danelle (djo62), upon my request, was very helpful enough to facilitate the resharpening, reconditioning and shipping of the Native to me! To top it all I also just received from Joe (Kingknives) the May 99 issue of TK with an article on the Native!

Now I have another Spyderco folder to replace the Endura II I sold (with a heavy heart) to pay for some debts.

The Native is a really great folder; the size is just right for my hands -- to top it all the lockback and ambi clip perfectly suits my southpaw use!

I also would like to thank Sal for building not only excellent knives but also an excellent company; and to Mike and Spark for an excellent online community.

I am one very, very, very happy knifenut! Thank you (maraming salamat) from the bottom of my heart; I hope I can repay your kindness someday, folks!

Alright Titan!

I was playing around with the Bladeforum Native tonite, and it really is head and shoulders above any lockback I have touched.

The Spyderco & Bladeforum people have been really good to us.

Mark (one of several)

Mark -- ooopss! Sorry for not being clear; what I have is a regular production Native. I call it my own "BF" Native because without BF I wouldn't get David's Native!

Well, as I told Dannyc, I can always get a spray paint and color mine blue!

Titan,

Glad you like the knife as much as I did. I am not a knife knut collector. I like to use the knives I have and keep those that I use. The BF Native replaced my old personal utility. And, the old utility has a good home/pocket. You are happy. It's happy.

sing,

That was a very gracious thing to do. Hearing this puts a bright spot in my day.

Thank you.

sing,

Pretty soon you won't have any knives left if you keep giving all of them away?! Think of all those Spyderco knives you gave away to other co-workes. Hey, admit it, you just have too many and you are replacing your production knives with custom knives. I will take that dual Mad Poet set when you are bored with it.....lol. Just kidding of course - your are just a nice guy

.

Titan, you must be thrilled to have sing's own personal Native: I have never even heard of the Native until he showed it to me. I was impressed with it enough that I ordered a Blue Native for myself. Of course it helps to handle sing's own BN

- sweet knife. Mine is waiting for the sheath to arrive before it gets it delivered. Cool, another fellow LEFTY!

Titan~
So glad you finally got it! Have to tell you this "receive from here, ship to there" scenario made me nervous..tried hard not to screw it up! 'Specially since we were doing the overseas thing...
A relief for me to know it has been received...hope you enjoy it. I brought my own BF Native in to work today for a sharpening...most of you probably put yours away..I carry mine nearly every day and use the heck out of it!
Danelle

Jessan,

Glad you got your wish.

hehehe... Hmmm... Christmas is still around 5 months away, but already, the spirit is in the air!

As to painting it, hmm.. I haven't tried painting a Zytel handle yet, just some aluminum handles on el-cheapos. But since we have a car restoration shop, it turned out okay.
smile.gif

Since Zytel is plastic, you might want to try using those model paints. I'm just not sure how long it'll last with use and constant handling.

Sing, that's very nice of you to do that.

Danelle, Titan told me all about it, too.

Thanks for being a wonderful friend!

Tip up and tip down, midlock and linerlock really confuses my left hand. When I received my Military I found myself subconsciously pressing on its back to close it -- DUH! And now, when fondling the Native, I find sometimes find my thumb looking groping for a liner to disengage -- another DUH!

My zytel Enduras were tip up; my Endura II was tip down; the Military is tip down and now the Native, back to tip up. There goes muscle memory!

sing -- You're Native is in good hands. Don't worry, I won't sell or trade it for anything. Although my wife likes it better than my Military and there's a possibility she might confiscate it.

maddog2020 -- I really like companies that give us lefties truly ambidextrous folders; the Native is extra special as its the first Spydie to have reversible clip.

Danelle -- I was nervous when I picked up the Native as the postal clerk had to consult first with his Supervisor on whether to release my Native or not; I think he just wanted a reason to "confiscate" it for himself. Fat chance. Thanks also for including those catalogs; I've given some to my officemates with the hope of converting them into SpyderNuts!

Danny -- just kidding on the paint; the Native is beautiful as it is. Hope you receive your BF Native with the sheath soon!

Titan, still waiting on this end! sigh....

Though, after my Military failed its test against my AFCK-M2, I'm having second thoughts about whether the 440V can live up to expectations.. Oh well, my Blue Native won't see action anyway, I'm keeping it for display purposes only.. hehe.

Dan

Huh?

redface.gif

The CPM-440V failed against the M-2?

Did I miss something? Could you post a little more detail, or point me in the right direction? I thought I read (actually, I know I read, I still have it on file) a web site that tested the 440V directly against the M2 for cutting rope, and the 440V held it's edge for something like 53 to 56 cuts, and the M2 gave up at 44. IIRC. Please, post more details. Thanks.

err.. Outlaw, you can visit the thread here in the Spyderco Forum, entitled "Sharpness of the Military".

Oh, and the blinking thing hurts the eyes.. hehehe...
smile.gif

Dan

I think Outlaw meant the blinking to be on the emoticon only... but turns out that it blinks the whole line after that! lol...

Dan

Sorry about the aforementioned blinking. Yep, it was supposed to be an emoticon. Funny story, though. I was in the process of trying to straighten that out, and figure out what was going on, when my computer just crapped out, believe it or not. It took me about 8 hours to get it straightened out. Hardware failure. Remove and replace/just remove and throw away

.

So, again <blink> sorry
