I have an earlier generation 2 mode Copper AA maratac that I got in trade from a forum member back in August I think, the light was not used much before I got it.
It keeps turning itself on, it's very dim when it does this but it does it even when sitting on my dresser at night.

It turns on stuck very dim( less than the 5L low mode ) and won't turn off ,after awhile I can put the battery back in and theres no telling what it'll do.
Sometimes it'll work fine or it'll do something else, but inevitably I'll discover it dimly lit in the morning.

I really like the light and was thinking of replacing it with the brass AAA, for now I'll be switching back to the microstream USB but I don't want to forget to put my work EDC back in the leatherman sheath before work.

Has anybody else had a similar issue ?

I'm also having another issue.
I ordered a current version for my uncle for Christmas a few weeks ago, and they sent me one of their little pry bars instead by mistake.
I contacted them and the same exact thing happened ( 2 free pry bars for my troubles isn't bad I suppose)

I'm hoping 3rd times the charm and things went differently this time so I am hopeful , but if it's not I do not want to continue with the hassle for a light that may inevitably suffer from the same exact issue I'm having with mine now and will just cancel the order to find an alternative.

Just in case, does anybody know of a similarly priced alternative for a copper pocket light ?
Copper is the key thing here, because he's a plumber and well you get the idea

Have you cleaned the contacts/threads?

I just cleaned the contacts and it's currently behaving, but sometimes it will behave just fine so I can't really call it good yet.

One member in another flashlight thread said if they push hard on the top when tightening to turn it off, it doesn't come back on. Don't think it was your brand, though.

I believe that was my recent comment in regards to the olight I1R2 eos, and keeping it from activating itself with pressure...ect.

The maratac is still misbehaving, but
now it's just not cycling modes reliably.

I think this light is pretty much done.

It's very strange, but the flashlight it working perfectly fine now and has been since yesterday afternoon.
I will give it awhile and see if this continues before I write it off and replace it.

3rd times the charm, and he'll be getting a pry bar with it too.
I was able to receive it in time for Christmas and got a couple free gifts for my troubles.

My maratac copper is done, turned on again in the middle of the night and I'm just done hoping it'll start to work right.

I'll put the Microstream USB in my pocket for now ( or the LED Maglite AAA minimag ) and look into something new.

I want brass and it seems the best option that's my kind of simplicity is a peak eiger in brass with a clip from Prometheus.
