I've been admiring these watches for quite some time now, and I was wondering if anyone had one and if so what they thought about it. From what I've heard countycomm is the best source, does anyone disagree? Also, is it possible for service members (my best friend is in the USN) to get these for the price the government pays for them? I've seen that the countycomm price is about twice what Marathon charges the US government, and that sort of price cut would put it into a range where I would be able to buy it much easier. Any info is welcomed. Thanks

I have the T-SAR and it is my favorite tool diver that I have. I bought mine from countycomm as well and if you check they may still have the promo deal going on with a nice nylon watch case and a zulu strap with 'Marathon' on the buckle.

I have a Marathon TSAR that I got from Countycomm.com (and yes, they are the best source). I love it. It's solid, dependable, holds up well even though I'm always bashing it into things, and keeps good time.

I went through a watch buying phase 3 months ago,got three seikos then bought Marathon G-sar from a member stationed in Iraq. Now i only have one watch, only taken the Marathon off when my job dictates i need to.Runs around 5 seconds fast per day.I bought a watchadoo brushed steel strap for around a quarter the price of the marathon steel strap but have gone back to the silicon strap it came with, very comfortable and i like the smell too.The lume on it is fantastic and its built like a tank, fantastic watch!

I dont have a Marathon but I have only heard good things about them.
There watches you seem to see posted and talked about fairly regularly so they must be doing something right :)

i recently saw a post where a guy dropped his marathon on a tile floor and all the lumen thingies came out, made a weird lookin lumen pic at night lol, he shipped it back to them and they are gonna fix it i presume for free, he said it was a fluke probably, or maybe the bonding agent didnt harden right??

thats the only con i have ever heard about them, & like i say it was out of the ordinary, lotsa folks drop them all the time with no prob.

I finally broke down for a GSAR...fortunately, it was the Military pirce:thumbup:

Excellent watch; this is my bomb-proof, SHTF watch. I really "need" the tritium hands for early morning PT to operations at night. The automatic feature has been great...I wear 24/7 in the field and the only time I remove it is when I'm actually in my bed (which hasn't been too often lately:mad:).

You remove yours? Blasphemy! I have one of the newer run SARs (probably 3 yrs old). It's great. I've even gotten used to the cyclops magnifier over the date. The watch glows nicely almost the entire night (non-tritium model). To put it in perspective I've managed to break a luminox and traser watch. These things are tough! Not to mention you'll get bulging muscles in your forearm from wearing it.

Thanks for brings these watches to my attention.

I like the original SAR, the non tritium model, with the 'Date Magnifying Cyclops.' :D

imho the marathon is the best looking watch around for less than $1K, its what i would get unless i was gonna spend $1200 or $1500 in which case i would get a sinn acrylic, but for the $$ i really like the look and the reliablity of the marathons.

are they more rugged than say a seiko orange monster or something similar? probably not, the 'monster is a lotta watch for ~$150, but imho the "look" of the marathon is superior to the 'monster, though i like 'monsters too, in fact being as rugged as a 'monster is something a lotta watches could aspire to............

The TSAR is the current watch that has my attention, I really would dig a titanium case that's a bit thinner than the TSAR but I see myself buying a TSAR when I buy a watch.

:D:D Yeah, when I'm home, there just isn't enough room in the bed for "all three of us":D My wife refuses to sleep on the couch any longer, but she has agreed to let me put the GSAR on the nightstand:eek:
