This looks like a good project for new scales. My choice would be Micarta, either black, red or ivory. Anybody know where to get 1/8" material?

I'm open to any suggestions about refurbishment of this sweet little chopper, including opportunity to get a pair of original/repro scales.

Age of this one is a question I haven't resolved. The head of all other old steel or wood-hafted Marbles I've seen in person or pictures have the trademark three-section overlapping holes in the head, to receive similarly-shaped handle. When did that feature begin?

This one doesn't, and I think that means it's older. Am I correct in that judgement?

Anyone know of a collector's site for these?

Sorry about the odd picture order...

Thanks, all, for your suggestions and comments. wlw

Hi W,

Nice find! I too found (what I think is the same MINI Hatchet) however, your Hatchet appears to be in MUCH better condition than mine when I found it (completely missing the handle) and mine was VERY rusty when I found the MINI in an old Barn. I wish I had some information for you regarding these neat lil' Hatchets. I might suggest however finding SOME way (if possible) of incorporating that ULTRA cool handle with those neat Logos into the new handle. I completely soaked my Marbles first in Vinegar and then an Oil bath. Heck, I even use a "Water Pik" to clean it out. Once fairly cleaned/Oiled the "safty bar" came back to life and works beautifully (complete SNAPPING motion). That being said, I need to give the Marbles another Vinegar bath and a lot more detailing. I think once "detailed" the MINI will look awesome. "W", should you find a source for handle replaced, please let me know. Should I find out any information, I will surely contact you.
Thanks W. Enjoy you awesome Marbles!

Regards,
HARDBALL
