I picked up this axe on ebay a few weeks ago. I hoped it was a #6 with the teardrop head. I took a chance on it but it is not a 6 it has the dimensions as shown in the big binder Marbles Specialties For Sportsmen of a #7 2 3/8 X 4 1/4 with a handle that is around 11 1/2. The reference in the book says 11 The weight is off with the weight 19.9 with the book stating 14 but I through a #5 was 19.9. I will check a #4 tomorrow to see how close it is to the book. If you have any thoughts I would sure like to hear them

I do not know much about Marble's axes. I just want to point out that it has very unusual eye. Your axe head has standard American eye. I hope I am wrong but it looks like somebody reused old Marble's handle

Some if not all very early wood handled axes had a teardrop a tear drop eye. I know for a fact some early #6 axes had a tear drop eye, a friend had one. The axe I have has pretty much all of the dimensions as a #7. I just have never seen one. The Encyclopedia of Marbles Knives & Sporting Collectibles on page 20 has this info, wood handled axes #4 and #5. 1897-1900 Unmarked: Round heeled heads with tear drop eye. After the tear drop they went to a 2 hole head. They were made in a #4 and #5, they also had a flange on the head so are very easy to tell from a picture. After the 2 hole they went to the typical 3 hole like you have pictured. Right now I have 2 complete #4s and a couple of heads. Same way with the #5s. of all the flange heads the #4 is harder to find. I think I did find a #7 but I need all the info I can find.
Thanks
