A while back, I found a Marbles Canoe model knife in an antique store. The handle was gone and the tang was broken off about where the thread would be. The tip was well rounded off, and there was enough rust that untill I got her home and on the wire wheel, I didn't even know it was made by marbles.
I discovered that the Marbles co. has a life time warranty, reguardless if you are the original owner or not. I contacted Jason Stewart, and made arrangements to send her back and be fixed up.
A few of the rust pits did not clean up totally, but I think the few minor remaining pits ad character.
To sum it up it looks great! It is also the first knife (except for some opinals) that has a convex edge, and I am very impressed with it. Since she is near ninety years old or so--I do not intend to put her back into hard service. She has earned her retirement, and now has a find dress to wear in it!

So Marbles was willing to refurbish a 90 year old knife with no handle? Wow, talk about a lifetime garauntee.
Why didn't they restore it to look like the original though? Was the gaurd that was originaly on the knife broken, and they don't make that prticula gaurd anymore? It looked fine in the first picture. Just curious. Looks great.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Matt Shade--

To tell you the truth I kind of wondered about the guard too. If I was going to use her, I may have said something about it, and maybe seen about having a longer one installed.
Actually after I think about it a while, I may get back in touch with them see why it isn't like the original.

Great looking job! but It kind of makes me want to cry - about 35 years ago a Marbles Factory Rep I knew offered to sell me his samples - skinners large camp knives and a few canoes as well... the price was even right but there was rent to pay and food to buy - lost opportunity.. anyway - cherish the old gal and enjoy her.. great to hear about that kind of company policy .. makes you feel good about sharing the information and owning the product..
enjoy in good health!

Jonesy!

I sent my Grandfather's Marbles (circa 1900) 'Ideal' back to them last year. It wasn't rough like yours, but had lost a little of the point and stag handle had loosened.
They reprofiled, tightened up, and buffed it into a handsome piece again.
I wouldn't let them replace the sheath as it was in pretty decent shape except for Grandpa burning his name into it.

Knife outlet--
I got to tell you, she is BEGGING to be used!
I may have to yield to her beckoning--but will be very careful if I do!

Chiro75--

It could have been done for free, but I was given the option to go with the stag handle, and choose a specific person to do the work at a "minimal" cost, and thats what I did.

rehab on mine was free
Chiro, you can see it when you come by next weekend.
Marble's service really was quite nice. they said they really like to get ahold of these old knives and they're proud of the warranty and glad to refurbish them.
