Being late on a Friday afternoon, I drift out to the web and look at knives for a break. I came across a Marbles Plainsman, carbon steel, stacked leather. I know much of what was Marbles is now produced overseas and sold at bargain basement prices whereas the classic old fixed blades are US made and fairly pricey.

What are your opinions of these knives? I hate that they have a cheap line and an expensive line with little delineation. If I get one I'll probably sell my RAT-3, though functionally awesome, I seem to drift towards more traditional styles.

Thanks,
Tim

I've got a few in 52100 steel which are good knives. (Woodcraft, Expert, Fieldcraft, Sport '99)

I'd still keep the RAT-3 though. (Obligatory, since Jeff and Mike are good friends of mine aside from the fact that it's a fine knife.)

I love the Rat-3 but I get these hairs to try something else and I...well feel guilty not using stuff. I'll keep the Rat-3. In fact I'd get one of their neck knifes if I could get it unfinished with scales added. Cord wrapping holds blood, fat and hair - yuk.

The fairly recent fixed blade knives made up thru the year 2000 are good ones. Possibly 2001 for some models. After that time frame, things changed from what I can tell.
