Here are a few pictures of a Marbles Large Whittler I recently bought. The average web price for this knife is about $20.00 (with the case). I’m pretty sure these are made at the same factory that produces the Rough Rider line. RR even has a similar knife in their line-up, but with different scales.

This knife is a little longer than a Queen Cattle King, but has a nice slim feel to it.

I was particularly surprised to see the tapered back-springs; I didn’t think anyone was making a modern production whittler like this. Does anyone know of others?

I bought four of the Marble’s jigged bone folders; this and a jumbo trapper are my favorites. Overall the fit and finish is very good … no blade wobble, good blade grinds and nice scales. The smaller blades have full half stops.

I could only find one issue with this knife, one side of the master blade does rub against one of the smaller blades and you can see that the master blade is not perfectly centered. Other than that, I really like it.

I also bought one of the swing-guards (same scale material), but I wasn’t as impressed. It’s not a bad knife, however, I ordered a Case large Cheetah in bone stag at the same time. The Case knife is made much better (but it cost a little more than twice the price). I know Case it criticized for tumbling or polishing or whatever it is they’re criticized for doing, but they make a better product.

I concur that it may be from the Rough Rider factory; same fit & finish and in a SMKW grab-bag I recently got a RR with the same tapered backspring. And I've seen sellers (in KY) that carry the lines side-by-side.

I had a RR in Sawbone with tapered backsprings.
It was very well made.
I gave it as a present to a friend, he was very pleased.

I kept the Queen in stag bone!
Also with tapered backsprings

Are any of the current production Queen / S&M Whittlers made with the tapered backsprings?

I've seen the new S&M Dogleg Whittlers on the web , but they don't show the back.

My S&M Wharncliff Whittler has a wedge.
My Boker CGB Whittler has tapered backsprings.

I picked up one of the curret production folding hunters a few years ago.
I was actually fairly surprised when I got it.
Fit and finish on it is great, actually came very sharp too.. I think it was 13.00. Don't know how well it will hold up, its never been used. To big for me...

I also have the twin blade hunter model from Marbles. Very nice fit and finish and came very sharp. The carrying bag that it comes with is a nice touch. You would think Case or Queen could include a similar bag at their prices.

I recently got my Queen D2 Whittler in Stagbone from Cumberland.
Ask Bill what the other Queens are.

To my understanding (and eyes), the picture above is not of tapered springs, but of equal width springs with a wedge. Admittedly, I could be wrong, but it sure looks to me like those springs are the same width for their entire length.

I have several whittlers and examples of both truly tapered and springs. My Boker in Grand Canyon Bone has no wedge, just two springs that are thicker on one end than the other, and the full width of both springs is used to support the main blade.

Yes the springs are equal, it has a wedge to make the rear bolster wider.

Is the Boker a current production? I'd like to see a tapered spring..... all of a sudden I love these whittlers.
