Marble's Knives Questions

A while ago Marbles released a new handle design for most of their knives. It is called the "game getter" or "carver" handle. This handle type is basically countoured black micarta or cocobolo with some spacers between it and the brass guard. I think these handles look a lot better than the regular marbles handles (I dislike the bulbuous aluminum pommels and the shape in general), and the real shocker is that the knives with these handles are much cheaper than with the regular handles. On the smaller knives (all knives except the Trailmaker and Loveless Trailknife), the prices range from about $50 to about $60 at Discountknives.com . These handles look very ergonomic, if somewhat slippery when wet.

Here are some pics:

This recent development has sparked my interest in Marble's Knives, and I have some questions about them.

Firstly, do any of you own a "carver" handled Marble's knife, and if so, how do you like them?

Also, what kind of sheath do they come with (I presume they come with a sheath), and what is the quality of those sheathes?

Thanks!

Andrew, the carver/game getter handles are very nice, being slightly longer, with palm swells, flared pommel, and small guard - you won't be disappointed with the shape and feel at all. I was skeptical of the traditional handles, too; but they are also nice. If you haven't taken the opporunity to handle one, check 'em out. :)

Sheaths are leather pouch for the smaller models, and the quality is okay, not the worst I've seen, and not the best, either.

NOTE: The Marbles knives in question have laminated wood handles, not "cocbolo", but rather a laminated, dyed birch, that is quite durable and waterproof, but is a layered wood product, not an exotic wood.

Hmmm, all the product info I've found says cocobolo...

(Edit) This is from the Marble's site, just didn't see it the first time. "We chose Cocobolo Dymond-wood® for this project because of its strength and stability. This unique laminate is also 100 percent impervious to moisture, heat, and cold. It can be used with total confidence in any harsh field environment."

Yes, I also have one of the Marbles Cocobolo Dymond-wood® handled carvers. I like it, but don't use it that much. The quality and value is certainly there. Also, as all of Marbles' knives, it is very sharp and very traditional in appearance.

Also, the handle on mine is Cocobolo Dymond-wood® wood exactly as per Marbles' description on their web site.

The sheath is OK, but I would like a better quality if I had a choice.

I have two Marbles knives with the Cocobolo Carver handles, a Fieldcraft and a Northwoods Big Game Skinner. I love them both. The handles are very ergonomic, and the blade steel and edge geometry are excellent. Nothing but good things to say.
