Greetings:

I'm new to the forum, been reading for a while but just registered. What does the group think about the general quality of the new Marble's knives? I recently purchased the Cowboy knife with the smooth bone handle, looks well made and the carbon blade seems to hold an edge pretty darn good. Didn't buy it for hard use but it looks like it might perform well for a general utility knife when outdoors, hunting, etc.

Thanks

Haven't got a new Marble's for about two years,it was a maple burl, stag crown utility skinner.I have used it for skinning 3 whitetail deer,oh man,Marbles are amazingly sharp right out of the box and do hold there edge very well.Just two or three touchups while I've used it,cut a very little rope also, did that great.I like Marble's a lot.:thumbup:Did Marble's move or something recently?

Well, they haven't moved but as I understand it, they were an old, honored company that stopped making knives a while back and only recently (within the last few years) resumed manufacturing knives.

I have two of there large bowie's one is eight inches and the other is ten inches. They are both good hard working knives hold a good edge, good knives for the price

Mike Stewart ran Marble's knife department for a while, up until a few years ago. (Mike is now re-established at Bark River K&T, still turning out superb blades, this time his own line.) At that time the Marble's blades were in 52100. I was fortunate enough to obtain two Campcraft models, one in stacked leather, the other with a micarta grip. After Mike left there was a year or two when the new Marble's wouldn't reveal what steel they were using, and they took a lot of criticism for it. That has now changed (see their website) and they are using 50100B, I believe -- a kissing cousin to 52100. I suspect that Camillus is now producing their blades (no complaints here), and that the steel is the same as Carbon V and what Camillus uses in their excellent Becker line. Great steel in any event. As a side note, when in Denver recently I stumbled into an antique shop which had a drawer full of old blades, including a much used Marble's in an original leather sheath. The price tag said $3, I thought, until I asked the owner. Nope, said he, $300. You know your blades, I said, and handed it back after wiping the drool off.:o

I have several Marbles knives, but haven't bought one since they went to the mystery steel. Mine are all from the Mike Stewart era or before.

But if they are using the stuff camillus puts out, I wouldn't be afraid of them. It is a good steel and the design and grinds on the Marbles knives are for the most part imminently usable.

A little thread hijak: Is there a Marbles Knives home page? I haven't been able to find one. Anyone know? Thanks

I know this is an older thread, but anymore info or opinions on present day Marbles knives? I am looking at one for use as a small skinning knife and was curious if it was worth the asking price of around $50.00.

Thanks!

My Marbles Fieldcraft from the Mike Swtewart era is one of the best fixed blades I've ever had the pleasure of using.
