Anyone have any info on the Marbles MSA knives ? I have seen them on line, but don't know anything about them.

Sorry I thought I put this in traditional... Mods please move to correct forum

I would recommend buying one from http://www.bay-shore-resort.com/store/monthlyspecial.asp

The ones sold by these guys are the best ones around. These were made in 2001 and are much nicer than the new ones. These from 01 were all made for them by Queen using 1095 steel. I have three of these like the one that comes up in this link.

Give the owner a call. She'll let you know what they have. I've bought three from her and all have been shipped right out.

Thanks for the link... I'll check them out and see what they have.
Are the current production models no longer made by Queen ?

MSA and Marble's are kind of two different things.

Marble's made slipjoint knives until 2001 and then sent them all overseas. They were good prior to 2001 and (as noted) made by Queen. After that, they were not very good--typical China stuff. I had some in and decided not to even put them on my website. (their classic series of fixed blade knives are still made in the US) You can see them here.
MSA Marble's Were made from 2001-2003 (maybe 2004) by Queen for The Custom Shoppe (aka Northwoods Knives) under the watchful eye of Dave Shirley. They were a cut above the USA Marble's--they had Dave Shirley's extra custom touch to them. The blades are D2.

The MSA knives have become very collectible--there are only a few places that have very many of them. You can see a few of them here.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info Derrick.. I just went and looked, you do have a very good selection

I bought a Marble's Woodcraft fixed blade just a few weeks ago and I'm quite pleased with it. The convex grind is nicely done and the steel (50100) is quite good.

I'm not too fond of the sheath, the leather is quite thin and the plastic liner is a rather cheap-feeling touch. I'm going to make a new one out of better leather.

I paid $80 for it, I'll definitely buy another one of their fixed blades.

Yep...their fixed blades (US made) are excellent, but their sheaths are poorly matched to the knives. I have never liked any knife sheath that had a plastic liner (queen fixed blades are the same)

Some of the sheaths sold by Jantz supply and Knife and Gun Finishing supplies match up well to some of the fixed blades. I did that for one of mine.

I didn't see a plastic insert in my sheath but it was a nice design just far less in quality than the knife that came with it and as you say thin leather also.

Okbohn thanks for the additional links. Boy I wish I hadn't damaged the Master Card so mercilessly for Christmas or I'd have already ordered one of those Bull Horn Wharncliff three blades. I've got three of the Easy Opener Tear drops, two in bull horn and one jigged bone and they are my favorite but I've wanted that little Wharny in the same bull horn for a long time. If you still have one next month its mine.
