Hi I was just curious on the age of these and how to re-handle them. It's small, but surprisingly enough it feels really good in the hand.

Well eventually if I use it i'm going to have to throw a new one in.

Old knob-end handles like that are hard to find and as you've already noted they are very comfortable in the hand. If it has come loose there are ways to to remove it safely and re-hang the axe on it securely. I would make every attempt at saving that old haft before cutting it off and replacing it.

With a re-finished haft and a hand filed grind you'd have one helluva fine hatchet there. It might even have value to some collector just as it is.

Oh yeah old Marbles hatchets with the original handles are worth double what a rehandled one is worth easy. Probably over $100 on the auction site. Not to mention the unusual shape of the eye makes it more difficult to replace.

I never really go on the auction site so I don't know what they are worth. Other than it is worth more than what I paid for it. It would look great in a nice leather sheath and a FB from the same timeframe of when it was made.

I don't know much about the old Marbles hatchets. I do have one that I suspect was rehandled at some point. There are three lines of raised(unusual) writing on the handle. I can just make out the last letters on the first line that says "ndle" and part of the last line that say "for".
First handle I have ever seen with raised letters and of course the eye is very strange.

No doubt replacement handles where available at one time and it wouldn't surprise me to find some vintage ones. Then again they are still manufacturing them so maybe the factory would be a place to contact.
