Three questions:

1) How thick is the blade?
2) What is the grind of the blade? (Full flat? Not convex, right?)
3) Marbles Plainsman vs. Grohmann/Russell Canadian Boat (#3) Knife (the carbon one)...preferences?

Thanks!

1) Blade Thickness: .217" (According to a very old listing by knifecenter, not sure if it's accurate)

2) I can't find any mention of the grind. I think pretty much all Marbles knives are convex grinds, although some are such a gradual convexion that they appear to be full flat, and you can only really see the curvature by putting something perfectly flat against the blade. There is a definite visible edge grind in all the pictures, which is also probably convex, though much steeper. You wouldn't need to strop the whole blade, just this edge. Of course, if you don't like convex edges, it's not difficult to flatten a convex edge into a V.

3) Both are good, solid, function-driven designs. Grohmann #3 will have thinner blade stock, but will likely be as thick or thicker behind the edge as the Marbles unless you order the full-flat ground version. Marbles runs their blades a little harder than Grohmann, so would probably support a thin edge a little better through extensive cutting.

I'd say if you're really leaning towards one or the other just in terms of how much you like it overall, then feel free to let that guide your choice and you won't have made a mistake either way. If you have a chance to handle them before buying, they look to have very different ergonomics and you'd notice this more in use than anything else.
