What the heck has happened to Marble's Knives? I've noticed that some internet dealers have stopped listing them, and a Plainsman I ordered from Discount Knives on May 9 has never arrived.

Has Marble's gone out of business?

No, Marbles has not gone out of business. They have changed many things about the way they make knives though. They now have a new steel that has replaced 52100 and 5160 in their lineup and they have also reduced the number of choices in handle material that you can get. They have gotten rid of most of the natural handle materials that they had in the past.

According to Marble's, the new steel they are using is actually better than 52100 and 5160. We will have to wait and see on that one I think.

Check out their website. Marble's

Good Evening Everyone-

If Buzzbait sees this thread, he may chime-in on what may be changing with Marble's. He has spoken positively about their knives on many occasions and may be able to give you additional feedback.

I have just heard from an internet dealer who has stopped selling Marble's knives. He says Marble's is difficult to deal with, and has made changes to the knives which Marble's fans don't like.

I don't know about their new steel, but I saw the new knives on Marble's website and like the longer guard on the new model.

Marble's is still alive and well although the winds are changing. I just received one of their Plainsman models in the new mystery steel and will be comparing it alongside my old model in 52100. Should have some results posted by this weekend.

It is true that they have limited their standard offering to four handle materials (leather, wood Game Getter, bone, molded rubber). They will also continue to do limited custom runs (300 or so per run) using a variety of natural materials.

BTW, for those interested, the tang stamp now just reads "Marble's" with no reference to Gladstone, MI.

Blademan:

Really looking forward to your evaluation of Marble's new steel.
