What's the scoop on their fixed blades? The Fieldcraft and Plainsman catch my eye. They were bought by a TN company and I know the axes and many folders are from China:barf:. The fixed blades are still commanding >$70.

I just bought a fieldcraft a couple months ago,stampted USA,good steel,very well put together,nice sheath.
The classic line is still american made exept for the safe grip modes which are chinease.

Are those Chinese made slipjoints any good at all?
Been pondering a Trapper in Bone...no good??

The chinese slipjoints seem to be a mixed bag. I got a red bone whittler hunk of junk. Contacted Marbles and sent the knife back. They were out of stock of the model so he sent me a sowbelly for the trouble and ordered another red bone whittler. The sowbelly is perfect, great fit and finish, no rub, good feel. A week or so later the new redbone arrives, same poor quality as the first, lots of interference.

Mmmh think I'll give that a miss then. For cheap Chinese knives that are OK to good quality and users, Rough Rider seems to be the one.

I just bought an ideal in jigged bone. I think I paid about $80. Fit and finish are near perfect and it's stamped Marbles USA (So it's probably not made in Gladstone - maybe TN?). It was also sharp enough to shave with out of the box.
