I know everone has been waitng for this moment, and it's been a long time coming, but we are finally ready to get things started!!
I want to begin by thanking all of the participants of this year's project.Everyone did a fantastic job, and went above and beyond what was expected of them, great job guys!!

This effort will be ran differently this year. There is no limit on how many chances one can purchase,
and no limit on chances sold, we sell what we sell! The chances are 15.00 each, or a block of 10 for 100.00.
The MOD walk is April 30th, and all funds will need to be in by April 28th, so I will accept payments for chances until 12 noon on the 27th, and draw and announcethe winner later that afternoon.Chances for this effort can be payed for with a check or money order.Checks[/email] or money orders can be mailed to my home address:
John M Cohea

Nettleton,MS.38858
Please make checks and money orders payable to the March of Dimes, and be sure contact info is included with all transactions.
And now without further ado, here's Coop's grand finale to this effort!

Spectacular.
the steel, the style, the artistry from all involved works together and for such a worthy cause.

I also need to mention that for anyone that will be in the area, I will have this set on display with chances available at the Mississippi Forge Council's Hammer In, in Jackson,Ms. the second weekend in March. Contact ABS Mastersmith Terry Vandeventer for more details.

John,

I'll be at the MFC's Hammer-In to see this beauty, and shell out some dollars for a good cause. Congrats for a great group effort.

John

This is a beautiful creation! Congrats to everyone involved. Is it just me, or does it look like the handle is cracking?

Fantastic project, terrific knife, stand and sheath - and first class photos. Count me in.

The handle isn't cracking, though there are cracks that have been in there a long time. The mammoth ivory is 20 to 60 thousand years old, it's the age that gives the material the colors and textures that really draws us to it. As knife makers when we build a knife we consider all aspects of the materials used, first and foremost in the knifemakers mind is structural soundness, we have to decide if cracks in the material effects that. Many fine knife makers are able to use them to add to the attractiveness of the piece without detracting from it structurally. To me the cracks serve to add another element of charm to an already stunning knife, in the spirit of full-disclosure, I donated the handle material, so I may be biased.

It is a good subject for another thread, I hope we can keep this thread about the knife and the cause.

Great pictures, Coop! And thanks John for letting me be a part of this project. I really enjoyed working with everyone.

I don't think the cracks in the handle detract at all! I actually like them, I just couldn't figure out if it was a crack or the lighting in the photo...

All around, this is definitely one of the nicest knives I've seen all year!

Fantastic charity, As far as the knife goes.. I think you can all turn in your tools, I don't think that knife can ever be topped. Seriously, that is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen that didn't have breasts. :)

Congratulations to all involved on this project. I mentioned to David in another forum that i thourght the base, which was very bright and shiny in the original photo i saw, would overpower the knife. Now i see how wrong i was:o.
Cheers Bruce
