Well,it's that time of year again folks.Time for the kickoff of the annual March of Dimes Fundraising Project to began.
As many of you may know, this is the fifth year for these projects, which all began as an idea to help my daughter Layla raise money for her favorite charity,The March of Dimes.
In the begining the concept was to put together a few of the local makers in our area to build a knife, and raffle it off on The Knife Network Forum, which Jim Cooper was a moderator of Worthy Cause Forum that they have there.
I contacted Jim and pitched my idea to him,and he was not only willing to help, but offered to shoot the knife for us and to help promote the effort.
That first year we raised and donated 1500.00 dollars to the March of Dimes ,and since that first effort was a success,we decide to do it on a yearly basis, with Coop onboard each year as our photographer.
If you have followed these efforts over the last 5 years, you know that we have had some extremely gifted, talented, and generous people involved, and it keeps getting beter each year!
So far, over 15,000.00 dollars has been raised and donated to this wonderful charity, and it is through the generosity of the people of the custom knife community that this has been possible.
Layla and I would like to thank all that have been involved these last few years, and that includes all of the makers, engravers, people that have donated materials,Jim for the photography and promotion of these efforts, and last but not least, all that have opened your wallets and your hearts to these efforts!
The project this year is a rustic style project, with ABS Mastersmith J Neilson as the primary builder of a fantastic bowie made from mosaic powered steel,a great piece of sambar stag donated by forum member Richard J,the sheath and display stand made by me,and Coop bringing it all together for us in the end with his magic!
Here is the completed project:

The drawing for this effort will be held on the Friday, the 30th day of this month.Chances will be the same as they have the last few years,15 dollars per chance,or 10 chances for 100.00.There will be no limit on the amount of chances sold,we sell what we sell.
If you would like to contribute to this effort you can do so through check or money orders.Since Paypal frowns on raffles,we unfortunatlely can't use their services for this effort.IF you would like to use PayPal to contribute to this fundraising effort,we will be selling neck knives for 100.00 dollars, and March of Dimes T shirts for 15.00,and all funds collected this way will be donated to the March of Dimes. Please send any donations as a gift if you would like to contribute to this effort this way. Please state the number of neck knives or T shirts that you will require, and include your name and address so we can ship your items to you.
If you want to purchase chances for the drawing, please send checks or money orders to the following address:
John M Cohea
114 Rogers Dr.
Nettleton,MS.38858
In order to maximize the amount of money contributed to the charity.make the check or money order out to me.The money will be deposited into my checking account, and I will then write a check to the March of Dimes for the amount collected. The reason for this is so we can request a matching donation from the company I work for.All donations must be in by 12 noon on the 30th of this month, and the drawing will be held that afternoon and the winner announced later that day. Thanks to all that choose to participate in this effort!

This is the fourth year we have done this March of Dimes charity project. It was emboldened by John's stepdaughter Layla as a project for her school, and we have taken the ball and ran many a touchdown!

Every year we have had new talent contributing to this. BIG props to J. Nielson and Richard J. for their parts in 2012. John and I are the 'old guard'. ;)

Man you do some awesome work.

Thanks for the compliment! My contribution, other than the coordination,is actually very small in comparision to all of the other fantasic contributing artists that have been on board for these efforts year after year!

John, You and J did an outstanding job on this Bowie. The knife and sheath are perfect match. Somebody is going to be thrilled. I hope it brings in a ton of cash for such a worthy cause.

Man, that's a beautiful Bowie. Great work all the way around, and a huge thanks for your generosity.

I'm going to clarify HOW you can participate, from John's initial post above:

The drawing for this effort will be held on Friday, March 30th, 2012.

Chances will be $15.00 each, or 10 chances for $100.00. There will be no limit on the amount of chances sold, we sell what we sell.

Since Paypal frowns on raffles, we unfortunately can't use their services for this effort, identified as such.

If you would like to use PayPal to contribute to this fundraising effort, we will be selling 'neck knives' for 100.00 dollars, and 'March of Dimes T shirts' for 15.00, and all funds collected this way will be donated to the March of Dimes. <wink> Please send any donations as a gift if you would like to contribute to this effort this way. Please state the number of neck knives or T shirts that you will require, and include your name and address so we can ship your items to you. <wink> jhncohea AT hotmail DOT com

If you would like to contribute to this effort you can do so through check or money orders with no problems:
Please send checks or money orders to the following address:

John M Cohea
114 Rogers Dr.
Nettleton, MS.38858

In order to maximize the amount of money contributed to the charity, make the check or money order out to me. The money will be deposited into my checking account, and I will then write a check to the March of Dimes for the amount collected. The reason for this is so we can request a matching donation from the company I work for. (YAY!)

All donations must be in by 12 noon on the 30th of March, and the drawing will be held that afternoon. The winner will be announced later that day.

Thanks to all that choose to participate in this effort!
