Hello ,

I am considering to buy either Custom Socom Elite or Rockstead Shin. Both knives are expensive 1000 $ plus. Both have amazing blades and aluminum handles. Socom looks to have great action. Never handled a Rockstead so I wonder how it compares to Socom in deployment department considering both are thumstuds openers. Any advice, thoughts..
Thanks

I'd go rockstead, just something a little more prestigious about them. You can buy a regular socom much cheaper, but rockstead's base quality is just on a different level. If that makes any sense.

I own a Rockstead Shin, its a beautiful knife and it cuts like nothing you never seen before, but since I jumped the $1000 fence, I just carry my Shiro.

I'd definitely get the Rockstead, they're at another level of knife nuttiness if that makes any sense. I personally own two at the moment and the craftsmanship on them never seizes to amaze me, even after 3 years now.

The socom is going to be the same as a production socom elite (which is to say fantastic, but probably not worth the extra money).

I love my socom elite collection but the rockstead would probably be nicer for that level of money.

Hate to bore you with a consensus, but I would also vote Rockstead. It’s probably the most-used knife I’ve seen over $500. Custom Marfiones tend to be showpieces, whereas Rocksteads are well-optimized for usage.

Thanks for the input.
What would be the better of the two for fidgeting and playing i know both are sharp :)

I would say the Marfione for fidgeting. The Socom models have roller bearing pivots.

I could never get behind Rocksteads for the price. My vote is for going for a full custom. Or a Rask/Norseman.

Decisions....
Love both knives but it seems strange to pay 1000 usd more for custom socom just to have hollow grind blade if that is only difference to production model. It is best to hold knife in the hand before buying..

Just get the production model and save a ton of cash. You can always sell it and grab yourself something nicer, as it will be easy to flip the Socom if you don't like it.

They're on par with one another. Both are production-ish knives. Highly refined with a lot of hand work, superb fit and finish, etc.

Marfione makes great knives and the Socom is my favorite... but it'll always be a fancy version of a base model.

Rockstead doesn't do base models. They're all top shelf. I don't know if I could spend Rockstead money on any knife other than a Rockstead, unless I already owned their entire line.

Plus, the Shin comes in what I still consider the king of steeld: ZDP-189. We're spoiled for super-steels now and I still haven't found anything that I like better.

Only problem I have with both is aluminum handles on otherwise beautiful knives. Some socoms go for almost 2000usd still aluminum. Maybe I will get Shiro or Koenig instead
