I've seen Dexter Ewing's message and Will Fennel's Response (6-28-2000). I recently aquired a knife that I had no Idea what it was but I liked the design so I purchased it. After a little research (Levine's) I came to beleive it could be a Marine Raiders' Stiletto. The only problem is that this knife has no marks at all except a CamilluS Mark etched into it. The mark is just like the typical CamilluS Mark with the lines over and under. Could this be the real thing? It could be a knock-off, but I mean it is perfect as far as I can tell from looking at other pictures and descriptions. I have been told that Tom Williams is the person to talk to, but I can't seem to get up with him. Does anybody have a comment on all of this? I would really appreciate feedback as I am a knife collector also. Thanks!I have pictures but don't know how to post them here. Also, A message to D.Ewing, after taking pictures of this knife I have come to realize why CAman commented on it's Quality.

James, welcome to the forums! Glad you like your Stiletto. Look forard to Tom's response. He will give you infomation you need about the knife and then some! He's definitely the one to talk to in regards to older Camillus offerings.

my Camillus sheath has mildow. Camillus treated their Mil. sheaths against that in WW11, and still do. What was/is used? I tried vinegar. It doesn`t last.

Camillus Cutlery Co. produced the USMC Raider's Stiletto in 1942 and a total of 14,370 knives were made. The Camillus version featured a cast zinc handle with the USMC scroll and Camillus maker's markings etched on the blade.
In the late 1980's, Camillus offered a reproduction and 2,000 knives were produced. The reproduction Stilettos featured a cast pewter handle, blued blade and the USMC scroll and Camillus name were etched in gold. Most of these knives were packaged in a wood display case with a red velvet lining.
After the 2,000 reproduction Stilettos were sold, the remaining knives, without the blued blades and gold etching, were etched "CAMILLUS" and were offered during the early and mid 1990's. Mr. Kimzey has this version. I mailed Mr. Kimzey copies or our original WWII USMC Raider's Stiletto records. If anyone else would like a copy, without charge, just e-mail me your postal mailing address.

Thank You Tom, For your time and very detailed and accurate work.It is great to know exactly what you have. I am pleased to know that even though it is not the exact real thing, that it was made by Camillus in the fine tradition of its forebearers. Also, its just a great looking knife! Thanks again for a job well done.

To All and Mainly Tom
Again thanks for the hard work. This is what happened at the knife show I went to. I met a guy and got into a discussion about the knife. He said he would like to see it and I thought good maybe I can find out its worth more or less. I wasn't really looking to sell at this point but get an idea of the value. Well he took it off and about 15 minutes later, (I was beginning to think I was being taken) he finally came back, handed it to me as though perhap's it had s**t on the blade and said " I called Camillus and the rep said that they (Camillus) said that they had a bunch left on a shelf somewhere and he could get as many as he wanted at $35 a pop. As you can imagine, I was a little surprised. I collect and I know that sometimes you buy a dud (see Bruce Voyles pessimistic article in KNIVES 2000, KRAUSE) but is this true? I certainly hold this knife in higher reguard than that, but I also like to know the facts. Also note I looked at hundreds of knives and saw nothing that even resembled this one, save a couple of German Nazi Daggers and I am not even sure they were real, you know how those things are. I am eagerly anticipating anyone's response.

Mr. Kimzey,
Somebody is trying to pull one over on you. I REALLY WISH I had a 'a bunch on a shelf' , as I could sell them ASAP. Let me see if I can get this straight, you were at a knife show, I guess that would mean it was a weekend? Nobody answers a phone at CAMILLUS on a Saturday or Sunday. If he means he called his 'Area Rep.'[TERRITORY MANAGER],...that would be my Father for the South East, and I KNOW nobody called him this past weekend, as he was at the BUCKMASTERS EXPO with me in Ala.

I don't know what to tell you, but I don't believe this guy talked to anybody @ CAMILLUS, and we don't have ANY more Marine Raider Stilettos. I hope this helps.

Thank you Will. I already feel better about the whole thing. He did in fact say he called his area rep. He also claimed the area rep. was in Raleigh! I too was wondering if I could get ahold of the ones "on your shelf". Oh, well. Thanks again, James Kimzey :roll eyes

:rolleyes -There! got it right that time. I am venting now- You know- why do these guys act like that? What was his objective? He is NOT helping the knife community. Hey, I know - let's discourage as many people as we can! More knives for us! WRONG. O.K. I feel better now. Sorry you had to see that.
