Has anybody tried the rust preventive wiping cloth from Sentry.Sent out some knives to have sheaths made they came back with tiny rust spots on them. Had them coated with Renaissance Wax at the time also.

I use a Marine Tuff-cloth for my knives and it has really worked great.I wasnt sure if it was really working until I sharpened a few of my knives (all 1095 steel).I wiped 2 down and left one untreated. The untreated one ended up with rust spots, the other 2 didnt.Pretty unscientific test, but I think the thing works.I hope this is useful.

I've been using and giving them away with some knives for several years. They work.

There are two different cloths, the Tuff Cloth and the Marine Tuff Cloth. The Marine one leaves a heavier film on the blade but protects much longer.

Thanks guys. I ordered 2 of the marine tuf cloths and will try them out.
Thanks Again

I have not had as much success with either marine tuf cloth or the regular tufcloth - or for that matter, renaissance wax. I've also tried a variety of combinations of the foregoing, without getting great results in the field or on the water. Am I the only one?

I've use the marine cloths and they work good! but I have used simichrome for about 15 years on knives that I am storing and I have never had a problem, I can't say that about the marine cloth only been using it for 1 year.

If at first you don't succeed, buy more knifemaking equipment!

TJ,

I had an experimental knife and a standard model tested by an E.O.D. technician in the Navy. The standard model knife was made out of D2. As far as i know this blade saw time in salt water. It came back to me without ANY
corrosion. When i asked the man what he did, he said that he used Marine Tuff-Cloth.

I've also done some "unscientific testing" with both Tuf-Cloth and Marine Tuf-Cloth. I haven't been impressed at all with the results. It's too bad because it's a great idea/concept.

Maybe Bernie and I are doing something wrong. Those of you who have had good success with Tuf Clth and Marine T C, do you let it sit for a while, do you apply several times, or what?

I have had good luck with Marine Tuf-Cloth.

I use it on most of my blades here in South Florida, including several carbon steel neck knives.

I usually apply it and let it sit for a while until it dries thoroughly. Often on carbon steel blades, I'll apply it on consecutive days to ensure that the blade has been well coated.

I have had no rust problems since using this product. I have had a patina develop on some carbon steel, but no red rust at all.
