Marine Tuf-Cloth...

It's HOT & HUMID in Kentucky as unsual in the summers. I purchased a Sentry Solutions "Marine Tuf-Cloth" for use on my pocket pistols. After reading the post regarding the fellow finding a little rust on the blade of his Sebenza, I decided to apply it to some of my finer blades also. I put it on last night and buffed it off this morning. The blades have a slight glassy look to them now. The strange part is that the edges seem a little keener now. I suppose this could be the result of just a good blade cleaning, but I like the sharper feel.
Anybody else ever noticed this?

I use the Marine Tuff-Cloth every day on my knives. The buricant "bonds" with the metal and IMHO does a great job of keeping the blade in absolute clean and pristine condition. I also use some of Sentry's dry-lube, but I am careful as it is black and can stain a finish......wolf

I just found my Marine TufCloth last night, cleaning up my computer room. Had been missing for several months. Dry as a bone, or nearly so. Does anyone have any experience/success at adding mineral spirits and getting their cloth working again? Any suggestions on how to apply the spirits evenly? I don't want the cloth soaking wet in part, and still dry in others.

Is it hard to find mineral spirits? I know once someone suggested finding them at a drug store. Any other realistic sources?

Thanks,

Bugs3x try using Breakfree CLP instead. It has superior rust protection. I heard Corrosion X is good too. I've been using marine tuff cloth and I noticed a tiny spot formed on bead blast finish.

Bugs, I use the Tuf-Glide as it will bring the cloth back 100%! It is in effect putting back that which has been lost, though the Marine cloth has other stuff in it as well as far as I know which means you will have to get another at some point... They are not THAT expensive are they?:p

Bugs:
Any paint or hardware store will have mineral spirits, although, as Gerneral said, you are better off using Tuf-Glide to refresh the Tuf-Cloth.

Just sprinkle some into the pouch and re-seal it and leave it alone for a while.

The bad news is that Tuf-Glide is expensive, about $17.95 for a 8oz. bottle. The good news? That bottle will last forever.

Mineral spirits is what Sentry originally uses as a carrier for the rust protectants in Tuff Cloth. Just sprinkle in the bag. It doesnt matter if its evenly wet, it will spread around as you use it.
There is no need to use your Tuff Cloth everyday, once or twice a month is more than enough as the rust inhibitants bond to the blade steel.

You use the Tuff Cloth EVERY day?? What do you do? You must do something very close to the salt water to feel that you must use the Tuff Cloth every day!

Thanks, all.

General, am just going on what the package says -- if it gets dry, use mineral spirits to "refresh" it.

During the time my Marine Cloth was missing, I bought the regular TufCloth, which has dried out quite quickly compared to the Marine cloth. I have the 8 oz bottle of TufGlide, but if can get more mileage out of the original cloths, seems to make sense to me. (My Scottish heritage runs deep, also.)

So, guess I'll try the hardware store first.

Thanks again,
