I was given this Mariner by a guy a know who's not really a knife guy. He found it and it was covered in rust. I got all the rust off and it is in pretty good condition. Any idea when this was made? The blade steel is G2 stainless.

Outstanding cleanup job.

As for dating your Mariner, Spyderco started putting steel markings on their blades in '92. When they did that, they identified GIN-1 as "G-2" and that practice continued until around '95 when they began calling it by its own name. Your Mariner would have been made sometime within that 4 year time span.

Thanks for the info. The tip on the knife is chipped but otherwise it is in great condition and the lockup is good.

I have a special place in my heart for the Spyderedged Mariner model>> The very first Spyderco knife I ever owned was a GIN-1 ( or G-2) Spyderedged Mariner model I got back in 1995 at a Kansas City Gun Show. Shortly thereafter I obtained several more Spyderco models and the rest is history as they say on TV documentaries .

I'm currently using and today carrying ( EDCing) a stainless handle RESCUE model which is essentially a Mariner model on large doses of steroids  I doubt if anything is going to dethrone it anytime soon because lately I've been using the hell out of that Spyderedged, Stainless handled RESCUE model with ATS-55 blade steel.

Please use and enjoy your Mariner model. Of all the older/discontinued models the Mariner is still a very useful and practical serrated blade even by today's standards. Great Find!!
