I don't know if this is the right part of the forum for this, but it looks like it.

It's about 5 am and we just got a phone call from the oldest son, a Marine serving in Helmand Province. Unbeknownst to us, he's been in near-constant combat for about three weeks. (We haven't heard anything from him in a month or so.) They're back in Camp Leatherneck for a couple days R&R, then back into the fray. We didn't get to talk long, but he seems okay. One guy 8" away from him took a shot to the head, but he was actually fine -- thanks, Kevlar!

If y'all don't mind, keep him and his buddies in your thoughts. A couple Girl Scout troops in our town are sending cookies to him and his company, and thats always a hit, and he appreciates the prayers and "good mojo" as well.

Thanks

Tell your son thanks for his service. My son did 2 tours in Iraq and I know the stress of having a child in harms way.A lot of his friends are over in Afghanistan I know how dangerous it is over there. All of our men and women serving for us are always in our prayers!

Another big thank you for your Son's service to our country and for you and your family's support as well! It is appreciated!

Give us the address and we can send him some magazines and such.

edited to add - praying for your son and his unit as well. (Forgot to put that in earlier.)

Give us the address and we can send him some magazines and such.

Absolutely - I have at least a boxful I could send; shooting & gun magazines, knive magazines, some good car magazines, etc.

Needless to say our thoughts prayers and daily thanks go to your son. At the same time thank you to you. you raised a great American and that is a credit to you. Also prayers of support and courage too you. As a parent I know you must worry all the time. Have faith. Trust God, courage, skill and all that is right are on your son's side.

Positive thoughts for your son and a heartfelt "Thanks" from the Pleasant Valley.

Tell your Son thanks, and God Bless him!!I was a Jarhead a long time ago, appreciate his service greatly!

I have plenty of time to pray tonight, I'll not forget your son and his fellow Marines. I was in the Corps. also and I honestly don't know if I'd be proud or terrified if my son ever joined.

Our troops are in my prayers daily. I pray for your sons safe return as well as all who are serving.

I want to thank you all for your responses and prayers. We got word yesterday that there is now a mail cutoff date, which means his unit will soon start rotating back home. No definite timescale for each individual Marine, but this is good news indeed.

If he ends up going back, I'll take some of you up on your offers to send magazines and such; despite the knuckle-dragger image some folks have of the Marines, those boys are real readers and they appreciate reading material.

Thanks again.
