I purchased one of the Marines fighting knives back about 1981, similar to the KA-BAR knive but made by Camillus. Can anyone tell me if these were ever issued to US armed forces and what type of steel they are made of?

Yes, Camillus and Ontario both made "fighting/utility" knifes for the USMC. Actually, the KaBar Company only made them during WWII and then quit!

My Camillus fighting/utility was not issued to me (I'm retired Army, not Marines) but I did buy it at the PX or Clothing Sales Store, don't remember which. I carried it for about 10 years of my 23 years in the Army.
