Someone told me last night, that he had heard a news story about 2 Marines doing wilderness survival training, killing a moose with just their knives very recently. I did some online searches, but can't locate the story.

Anybody heard of this one???..

No I haven't heard that story. I do find it very hard to believe. Consider that the moose weighs well over 1000 lbs. and two Marines probrably don't even come in at 200 lbs. Then again, look what Rambo did to that boar in First Blood.:D

Moose are so protected in these parts that I doubt that Marines would be permitted to kill one during an excercise. If you kill one without a permit there is a really big fine.

The Air Force winter survival school is at Fairchild Air Force Base Spokane, Washington. I know that there have been several cases there of airmen on their final test expedition successfully hunting deer with just their knives.

I've been hunting moose with my knife for well over 15 years now. When I finally succeed, I'll take pictures!

I do have a friend who was deer hunting and the thing came so close to him he thinks he could have stabbed it with his knife.

Happy moose hunting!

Instead of actually killing a moose (which is protected)
isn't it possible that they actually killed a Caribou or other similar creature that isn't as protected?
Pardon me if Caribou is protected, I just don't know that much about hunting.

How the he** did they catch the moose in the first place. I can tell you they outrun most creatures, and they don`t give in without a fight. Many people have been run down by moose here in Norway and a lot of moose dogs have felt their kicks.

I found this one hard to buy as well, that's why I searched online for verification. Haivng seen documentaries on Moose, it does sound VERY unlikely that it happened. Although we did have a documented case of a 70 year old man killing a white tailed deer with a Buck 110 here in my home area in So. Il. about 2-3 years ago.

He-he, the odds would be heavily in favor of the moose. The proper survival decision would be to leave anything that can kick your brains out alone. He-he!

:D

Moose are territorial and frequently attack people. Sometimes hunters accidently shoot a moose (which is a very expensive mistake to make). One way to tell the difference between a moose or an elk is that elk will generally run away from you. If it attacks you it is a moose. (Assuming that it is not the season for the elk to be in rut).
