Folks...

I just received an knife I ordered from Mark Hazen a knifemaker from North Carolina. Let me say that this maker is certainly one of the unsung pro's working in the knifemaking trade today!! He does not get a lot of notoriety but he should! I got one of his boot knives (You can see the basic version on his website..under "outdoor knives"). The knife has a 5 -5 1/4 inch blade of ATS-34, bead blasted with the false top edge sharpened and a green linen micarta handle (the tang is nicely tapered to reduce weight). I can shave with this knife, it is that sharp..I compare the edge to a Chris Reeves Project II that I have..both are scary scalpel sharp!!

Mr. Hazen not only did a great job on the knife but actually spent more time on the sheath because I asked for an inside the waistband sheath which he had to design and make on my request. I personally hate kydex for knives..the stuff scratches anything that even gets close to it, I don't care how much you clean it or the blade it scratches the blades end of story! Anyhoo..we went back and forth on design modifications and he kept plugging away..I don't know how much leather he went through to get it right but he did it! It works great and pulls the knife in close to the body and hides it nicely!!

The best part is..he did not charge me one cent more for the custom designed sheath than his normal charge for the knife with a kydex number.

I can't recommend his work enough...check out his website and give him a call if you want a lot of bang for not alot of bucks...his knives are great...grinds are even..sharp as hell..handle is contoured beautifully and the bead blasting is even steven.

His website is:

If you do order a knife from him..BE CAREFUL of the edge...I can't state this enough..they are razor sharp.

Have taken a look at the website. The knives look very good. Shall keep an eye on the blades and the maker.

I have admired Mark's knives from afar for some time. I first saw his knives in the display pages of the "usual" knife magazines. Also, his prices are amazing. I also find it comforting that most of his work include utilitarian, honest, straightforward knives that look like they will work, or take a beating, whichever you prefer. Jason.
