I searched BFC and found numerous entries re: Mark Hazen, a custom maker out of Charlotte, but no specific info on his "Search and Rescue" knives. I've also looked on his website and on others but again nothing about the "S&R". I stumbled across one at an antique store (yes I know it's not an antique) the price was $300.00. The over-all length is 14" and the ATS-34 blade is 9".The handle is green Micarta. I think the price is inflated but I'd like to be sure. Does anyone have any info on this model? Also, how is his work in general?

Although I don't own an example of his work, I have been following his work for some time.

You can see some of his current offerings over at:
Custom Knife Directory - The Custom Knife Resource!

I believe his page is at www.hazenknives.com

For the size of the blade in question, the price sounds about right. His somewhat shorter utility grades are generally in the sub $200 range and his subhilts about $500-$600 iirc.

I think that we will hear lots about his work in the future. As I say, I don't own any of his work but the pictures always show a decent grind and he appears to have the passion of his trade.

If you like the knife, go for it. You might be able to haggle the price a bit but I don't see it as out of the ballpark.

Cheers

GC

Edited because I realize you already have his site. Maybe try contacting him direct, he seems to be somewhat a neighbor.

I had one of his older chute knives.Great work at a great price. The knife you speak of for $300.00 a blade that size if minty should be a decent deal, but I don't know what they cost new currently.Never seen that particular model before either, maybe a one of a kind? E-mail Mr. Hazen for some backround info.
