Hi folks. Here's a bowie I just received from Mark Holson. The 10-3/4'' blade is forged from 1065, the fittings are wrought iron and the handle is some very nice walnut. The hamon on this piece is just crazy and the way Mark etched it, shows a lot of crystal grain structure, not sure if I like this though and may have Mark rub the blade out a bit more. This is Marks third bowie, so I'd say he's on the right track. Also, I think the work at the choil is fantastic. Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks for lookin.

I love that choil treatment. I've done that (on a much smaller scale) and it's labor intensive, but it looks great.

Damn, that's a beauty!! that would take some precise grinding to get your plunges to be even with the extra material in the choil area.

Nice score!

That's a terrific-looking bowie and just insanely good for his third. Congrats to you both.

The hamon grabs the eye right away and that choil treatment is nice, very nice. What a super piece of Walnut to complement that blade.
Thanks for posting it Don,it's a winner in my book.

Doug:)

Now THAT is some fine work. Good thinkin' out the box, too. Hill would be very admirable of his style. ;)

Congrats. Is this actually yours, or has Tina laid claim to it.....??! :p

Thanks for the comments guys. Coop, yes Tina wants this one but we will probably need to sell it. Tina traded her Jeep Cherokee to Mark for two bowies with the idea of selling them but this one will be hard to let go and we waited two years for it. Marks attention to detail is unbelievable.

A very, very nice bowie with great detail. It will sell, no problem.

Overall..an excellent design.

Congrats!

Nice lookin' piece. Something about that wood grain in your third picture reminds me of bird feathers...

Yup,I think it is a great looker too.It all works very well together for me.

Another sweet bowie from Mark. I've seen 2 small fixed blades of his in person via a dealer at a show, and 2 bowies via pics posted here at BF by Don, and every one of them have beautiful hamons and incredible workmanship.

Only his third bowie? Helluva good start! That wood is simply stunning, superb hamon, and I love the guard and fittings.

There are a lot of things I like about this one. Mark does not produce a lot of work presently, but from what I have seen, he is working his way up with dispatch.
Here is a fixed desk set that just sold on Gary Levine's site. I dragged my heels too long on this one. Great work, Mark!

Here is one of Mark's folders...the desk set in the previous post are fixed blades. Sorry about that. As you can see, Mark is making some great blades.

The walnut handle on Mark's latest bowie is out-of-this-world nice!

Hi Canineforge,

The scales on the folder are Mastodon Ivory and the two wood handled knives are small fixed blades not folders. Mark's work is incredible.

Although I would prefer a larger handle to go with that honkin' blade, the work looks super nice.

I love it when I see a great knife like that from someone I never heard of previously!
