Whats the differences between the Mark I and II?? I read the specs but which one is really better??

Pros and cons of each??

I am asking because i am trying to decide which one to get and the feedback a get from those of you who have experience with them and can please give me insight will be the determining factor.

Thanks to all in advance,

-Eycee

the real difference is the size. Mark I is huge. Mark I also has a built in seat belt cutter. Otherwise they are the same. Since I live in a city I bought Mark II and very happy with it - I have it for a 3 years now and it still finds its way in my pocket regularly.

If you are buying the Mark I do not plan on EDC in a pocket unless you have cargo pockets or something like that because the sheer bulk of the knife takes some getting used to. However IWB carry works well if you don't wear tucked in shirts. Unless you really need the seatbelt cutter and glass breaker. Then get the Mark II.

Small correction: Mark II has a glass breaker, but not the seat belt cutter

They sure are overpriced.

I handled their other models before, and I dont really find them that good... the 'textured' handles are actually sandpaper like layer PASTED on the side... they CAN be peeled off.

I have Mark II. It may look overpriced, but it worse every cent of that price. It very different from regular folders it has complicated from machining point of viev trully 3-dimentional handle. And it is still most comfortable handle for folder I ever know (and I have quite a collection). Usually knives has flat liner and more or less flat scales - this one absolutely different.

So the cost is different. MOD Mark II and Microtech knives just cost more because they more complicated and need more work to make them.

It has one of the best locking system. Only thing I dont like - thick edge, but it is CQB after all, not a slicer. However I prefer to have thid kind of handle foe any knife. It was my pernmanent EDC for about 3 years I think.

It is still one of the best design.

I have the Mk II. I do not carry it anymore. Currently, I carry a Bm Hk 14210. The MK2is a great knife, but I've had many problems with mine. I had to send it back once due to vertical and horizontal blade play. I had to send it back a 2nd time due to the same thing except I was informed that somthing on the inside had Sheered off. The 2nd time, Mike Janich helped me himself and even called me on the phone to help me solve the problem.

So, after the 2nd time, they just sent me a new knife with my original blade attached. Depending on how big your hands are, I would not get the MkI. As other have mentioned that thing is HUGE. To be honest, for the price, I would rather get somthing else like Microtech. Now keep in mind that I am not saying MOD knives are not good. They have an awesome customer service, and people on the board have mentioned that they had NO problems with theirs. I just have had 2 bad expereinces with them and prefer not to use the knife.

I must admit, that the carbide glass breaker is a nice addition. It works extremely well compared to Microtechs.

I have both. I tend to carry the Mark II more than the Mark I. Built very well, good in the hands and sleek.

It comes down to personal preference on size, not to mention what you will be cutting...

You might also want to look at the MOD ATFK

Would you be willing to sell either of them by chance??

I too am debating whether to get a MOD CQD Mark I or a Mark II. Tough decision...

In case it's any help to you, I've looked everywhere on the 'net for the best deal on them, and the best prices that I've found for them are on this site. You can get the Mark II there for $165, and the Mark I for $211. I've never bought from this site, though.

Did you find the Mark I hard for EDC?? Did it not fit in a pocket because i would be using this for EDC in my right hand pants pocket. Is it uncomfortable in your hands??

Sorry for the questions im just trying to find out as much as i can before i buy this knife.

Judging from the length of the Mark I while closed (5 3/4"), I doubt that it would be very comfortable in your pocket. If I get the Mark I, I'm getting a belt sheath to carry it in... The Mark II (4 5/8") sounds more reasonable for pocket carry, though.

I've seen and handled the MKI in person, but not the MkII. There was one comment that summed up the MKI knife perfectly, I forget where I saw it:
"This is a YAK killing knife it's so huge!". It really is worth seeing one in person. Sorta like going to see the wonders of the world . Seriously though, the differences are the MKII has about 1/3 less of an inch in blade IIRC, no seat belt cutter, and the carbide glass breaker is at the butt of the knife to aid with pressure point manipulation (it's at the other end on the MKI). I was considering buying the aformentioned MKI at a slightly higher price, but decided that college doesn't pay well enough (nothing at all) for me to purchase at that point. I probably would have sprung of a MKII, just because the man I knew who carried the MKI was 6'4", 270 pounds, and just a HUGE dude. He EDCed it seemingly with no problem .

On the other hand, the special edition MKI, with a non-marked blade, sharpened false edge, and marlin spike is apparently the standard issue knife for SEALs. So if you need to play DEVGRU in the backyard, I'd say you'd be better off with the MKI. :D Seriously though, I could also argue the MKI makes a better choice for another reason: the seatbelt cutter. Instead of being "Tactical Death Machine 2009" in court, it's "Tactical Death Machine 2009- with possible safety features!", which may be more defensible in court (If I needed to escape from my car, I have a tool!). OTOH, if you're at the point of trying to defend any MOD knives as non-offensive weapons, you better start taking a liking to orange jumpsuits.

The site you sent me says the Mark I comes with the pocket clip and a belt sheath aswell. I think i may order the Mark I with the plain blade and then order the spike separate and then possibly get the NightWing with the serrated spine aswell. Im just comtemplating for sure lol.
