I just got a markII deiter and I am finding that the blade is stiff. On all of my other knives (Benchmades,Emersons,Kershaws, etc.) I turn the pivot screw just a drop and they fly open. On this knife I turn it forever and I bearly see a difference.I e-mailed MOD and they said to back out the pivot screw then push out the pin. Then to reinsert the pin and screw. I did this and it still made no difference! What I need to know is should I should expect this knife to open like my benchmades etc. ,that open with the flick of the thumb stud or should I expect it to be stiff. Do you think oil will loosen it up?

This has come up before on the CQD Mkii, but apparently not on the full size model for whatever reason. It boils down to the tolerances are extremely tight. Other posters have said that by opening and closing it non stop for an hour or two or three it smoothes to like glass. Oil does not seem to matter, its not really a lubrication issue. This is a plunge lock and the way it works requires more metal to metal contact than say a liner lock or axis lock, so it needs to be broken in a bit more. Its worked for other people at least. I have no idea why this problem seems not to exist on the identical but larger model. Its a great knife with a very strong fool proof lock. I do not think however you will ever be able to just flick it open without using the thumb stud to some extent to get it started.

Yup, I posted the exact same question when I got the full size...and the answer is YES, it DOES loosen with multiple opening/closing (it took me more than a few hours though :o )...once it loosens up, it WILL be easy to flick open into reverse grip (because of the handle weight to blade weight ratio) but difficult to flick open (without using the thumb stud) into standard grip...the best news is that you CAN hold the plunge lock down and flick the knife closed....it sure makes a great THWACK upon opening or closing :D
