I'm looking to get a CRK fixed blade and I have narrowed it down to these three.

Is the obvious answer, "Get the VI / Mountaineer, because they've been discontinued and the Nyala will be around for quite some time."?

If so, which of the two one-piece's would you all recommend?

I did a search and the favors certainly seem to tip in the balance of the Mountaineer II, mainly due to the single guard and the ability to really choke up on the blade for fine work.

I also read a couple minor complaints about the Mountaineer's sheath. Are these complaints unfounded or is the sheath indeed less than satisfactory?

Thank you very much. :)

(I got the Mountaineer) :D

I had a great discussion by email with another member about this issue (unless it was you? LOL). I think the Nyala is a better knife but it's new and the One Piece knives have been discontinued. Between the Shadow and the Mountaineer, I prefer the single guard on the Mountaineer but that's personal preference. I think you'll be happy, and if you're not, there's going to be a ready market for those knives since they are discontinued.

Thanks for the input! :)

I definitely plan on getting a Nyala at some point down the road.

I special ordered my Mountaineer II with a Mark VI snap sheath and switched the security strap to the other side. Personally, I like the looks and retention of the snap sheath better, but the Mtn. pouch sheath is more user friendly.

You can probably still order a snap sheath and have the enjoyment of using both.

Definitley get the Nyala, it's a great knife. Fills the need for our fixed blade Sebenza, with a wider blade. I am looking for a Mountaineer, so, I'd go with the Mountaineer ;).
