I would like to provide some feedback about the "For Sale by Individuals" marketplace. I find it disappointing that I cannot post the occasional knife for sale without becoming a paid subscriber. I maybe sell 1 knife every year or so which wouldn't make the financial commitment worth it. While I understand that a forum has to pay its bills, this seems overly restrictive and would ask that the owners and moderators of the forum reconsider their position on this.

I really like bladeforums.com but find that I have been visiting less (and going to other knife forums) because of this policy. Additionally, I know my traffic is valuable for your advertisers so their should be an equitable value exchange of traffic for advertising dollars to allow individual sellers to post every now and again.

Respectfully,
M

This site has very little advertising and is only 25.00 per year for a gold membership. One other site charges per knife to sell and is barely readable for the advertisements. At about 2.09 a month I could see where this one would be cost prohibitive.:D

It costs $25 to support the forum, not exactly a huge fortune. If the only reason you access this forum is so you can sell one knife per year then maybe you need to reassess your sales program. If you like coming to the forum for other reasons then why not support it?

What advertisers?

Your claim has little merit IMO.

No, Spark should NOT change his policy on this!! And what advertisers are you referring to? BF is ad free! I LOVE the fact that there are NO ads here. This is a great site! It doesn't cost much to support this site.

Respectfully, you must not visit that much or you would have known there are no advertisers on BF. The forum is owned by Spark and is supported by him and members that contribute because they enjoy the knives and the fellowship. The ability to sell is a side benefit to gold & platinum members, plus the dealers.

I for one think the policy is just fine and needs no changes other than the ones recently given to us by Spark.

Just my opinion,
James

Yup, I agree with my friend James here!!

its sparks house, im just glad i get to hang around it:D. Its such a small price to pay for all the info ya get, i havent bought the gold but i'm thinking i just might. If ya like it so much then pony up the cash, sell your knives and enjoy the site...
nothing broke as far as i'm concerned

FEEDBACK isn't the worst place for this topic, but it really belongs in Service & Support, so ... moving ...

I rarely sell, rarely trade, and rarely post photos but at $25 (about seven cents a day) a year it is a priviledge to help in a very small way to keep BFC as one of the greatest knife forums on the net.
If every member paid at some level I would jump to ask Spark to change policy that would allow a BFC funded knife raffle (giveaway type) for the paid members every so often.
Until then I will continue to pay $25 a year.

I came out ahead on the money since I signed up for a Bladeforums membership at the time I dropped the last of my knife magazine subscriptions.

Herein lies the problem with the a good part of our country. Everybody thinks everything should be free. It will be the downfall of our society.

I have been a gold member for several years now. I think i sold knives on bladeforums the first time I upgraded to gold but I haven't done so in a long long time. I post pix through photobucket so i don't even use that service offered. I think I've locked exactly one thread since gold members have been able to do so and that was to try it out. I could pay 10 dollars a year and still have the search function and its probably easier to use google site:bladeforums to search anyway. I wonder why I still renew my gold membership every year...

oh yeah, it is because i visit bladeforums more than any other site on the web and I want to support it. I like having no adds cluttering up my pages and it is a wealth of info on knives and a huge community of like minded individuals. I am a member of the other forum as well but I can't stand the adds all over the page.

You can sell your knives other places online, ebay comes to mind, so does the other forum. Oh yeah, that's not free either.

Spark puts a huge amount of time and effort into bladeforums and it costs money. The people who support bladeforums get special priveleges (such as being able to sell knives without a per knife commission) as a thanx for their support.

mattmcg-
There are plenty of people who upgrade to the gold membership that dont ever sell knives here (me, for instance.) This site has so much good info, and storing that info does not come free. The speed and bandwidth of the site is not free. And all the other stuff like maintenance and administration are not free. Someone has to pay for all that. For what you get, 25.00 per year is a smoking deal.
