greetings all, i picked up a brand new folder from reputable dealer online. i noticed there was an arc shaped marking that led to a detent hole all visible on blade next to the pivot screw.this is the first time i saw this on any folder when fully opened meaning a visible detent hole and marking caused by detent ball.does anyone know if this is normal or not please reply.

I have some if there is any dirt in the knife around the pivot it can cause those marks, I have not seen that on a new knife though.

Sorry not that familiar with that model.

I've never had a new knife with the detent pre-worn in, but all of my broken-in folders have a groove worn into the tang where the detent ball contacts the blade. As far as I know, that much is totally normal.

If I'm interpreting your post correctly though, you're saying the detent groove and hole are totally exposed on the blade while it's locked open (as in, on the forward part of the blade and not the tang)? I don't know anything about the specific model you're dealing with, but that is not typical. It certainly warrants contacting customer service.

If the knife is locking and working OK don't worry about it. I can see a track on some of my folders too. Always have. I think it's just lube or surface marked over time.

It's just "marked," right? If it isn't making a 'groove' in the steel it's OK.

cant speak for that case , but , knife opened and closed during assembly and dealer can inspect knife as well before shipping , so it is possible.

Some designs have the detent track coming forward exposing it. Its probably normal for that one but can say for sure
