Markings on 2 CQB-1 knives are different...Why?

I have a pair of Camillus CUDA CQB-1 knives, (both are non-serrated). One is marked:

ATS-34
U.S.A.
CQB1

The other is marked:
ATS-34
U.S.A.

They look exactly the same except for:
1. The omission of the "CQB1" marking on one (the CUDA and emblem are the same on both knives).

2. The quality-control on the one that is marked with "CQB1" is pretty poor (the serrations of the thumb-ramp and the serrated area below that are cut un-even and not with "clean cuts").

Is the one marked with "CQB1" maybe a "2nd"? or is it just one that slipped past QC and/or is a newer model?

My CQB1 is also plain edge model.Does your CQB have the Terzuola logo?Mine is rough finished like you decribed.ATS-34 U.S.A. CQB1.The spec.sheet that came with the knife says it has a 59rc.What do you think this knife was made for?Uility(TK Mag.)or Fighter?I have read many of your post, and you said that you have improved your CQB by doing some custom work to it?Like what, dont keep me in suspense.Dont worry you have one hell of a knife.

Yes, both of my CQB-1's has the Terzuola logo. I think that this knife IS a "fighter", mainly due to the blade-style, and the versatile grip.

I have customized both of mine by: polishing the edges of the steel around the handle and the flat beyond the serrated thumb-ramp, as well as the sides of the false-edge. I also slightly rounded the flat area on top. I have also polished and smoothed the edges of the canvas micarta scales. I cut a 1/4 inch 1/2 moon choil at the base of the blade on both knives with my Dremmel, and it gives the knife a more "balanced" look.

I was rather disappointed with the poor cut on some of the serrations on one of the CQB-1's, but I have filed and sanded most of it pretty clean, so it now at least looks "passable", but I still know that it's not up to par with my other one.

Dann,
Most likely the etch was changed to make it more flexible. This way it can be used on all ATS-34 products instead of a seperate etch for each model made of ATS-34.

Rick,

So then, the CQB1 that is marked "CQB1" is the older one of my two?

That would be correct! And to complicate things even further - I believe there is still another etch that we are using now that says 154CM since we switched to that steel (American made vs. Foreign).

Great...So now I have to get the 154CM version, so I'll have all 3 of my favorite knife?.:D.
