I just picked up a Buck/Strider tanto folder (original model) and have noticed a faint marking on the back of the blade. There appears to be a circular wreath with a downwards pointing sword. It's bairly visible, just a faint trace of it on there. It isn't the strider logo. Anybody seen this before? Doesn't really bother me, I just find it curious. Knife was purchased brand new from a dealer today.

Ok, now after looking on the front face of the blade I'm noticing another marking. It looks like a triangle, possibly with words along each side (can't really tell) followed by the word DELTA in bold letters.

Both of these markings are very faint, almost like they were put on and then removed leaving an ever so slightly darkened area where they used to be. Hard to see except under good lighting.

I dont think so. My scanner doesn't work, and I'm pretty sure I couldn't get these to show up well enough either scanned or with a regular camera.

Thanks, but these are totally different. These arn't standard marks that you find on most knives. These are much larger. The circular wreath and sword marking has a diameter that is about 80% the width of the blade. It is centered along the length of the blade. The one on the other side is of similar size (though not a circle)

Are you sure the wreath and sword aren't the Strider stamp?

yes...absolutly positive!!! The Strider logo isn't a wreath, it's wings with an upwards pointing sword. This is totally different and most deffinetly a wreath with a downwards pointing sword.

I think the only solution to get this mystery solved is to see a picture of your knives' markings as it seems like you are the first person with these on your knive. So you might need to find someone with a camera or scanner. :(

I really don't think they would photograph well at all, they are really really faint. Maybe I'll give it a try though but even with 2 years of photography school under my belt I'm not sure if I can get these to show up. I may be sending the knife into Buck for another reason and they said they would look at it for me. It's deffinetly not a fake a knife. Weird stuff!!!

Mystery finally solved. Here is what Joe Houser had to say after I sent it in:

"I took it to our laser marking operator and he told me we did a few of those for the El Cajon SWAT team members once they became SWAT officers. He mentioned that it is likely that the blade in yours was one that did not end up being used for this purpose and the laser making was removed. Obviously, it was not totally removed in this case!"

So, that explains it finally. I'm getting a new blade put on there (actually getting a spearpoint instead) and I'm very pleased. I was a little tempted to keep it since it's obviously a rarity, but since it barely showed up at all it was more just funny looking then cool. Nice to finally have the mystery solved, and Buck has some wonderful customer service!!! Thanks!
