Markings on my CR

I noticed that on a couple of my Sebs, there are some markings on the unpolished Ti side. The word Classic and the letters MM with a bar over the top. What do these mean? Thanks

It means you have a "classic" model Sebenza that was reintroduced in 2000, which looks like the original Sebenza.

From the Chris Reeve web site:
"The Regular model Sebenza was introduced in 1996, replacing the first or original profile that had been introduced in 1990. In 2000, because so many customers had asked for the original profile, we introduced the Classic 2000."

M is Roman numeral, it means 1,000.
So...
MM = 2,000

I am aware that MM means 2000, but I know someone with a Classic Sebenza which has "MM Classic" inscribed on the rear. However, the date on the papers is 2003, is this possible, i.e. was MM used in 2003? I am just wondering if someone passed on papers unrelated to the knife sold.

Thanks.

I think all Classic Sebenza's are marked "MM" regardless of their date of manufacture to commemorate the reintroduction of the Classic design in 2000.

That is correct. It is a model designation, and all Classic models that were made in or after 2000, sport it... .

What does it mean if a handle has a number on it. In this case the number is 40 next to the Chris Reeve symbol (it is not a classic, but a regular large Sebenza)? It this some sort of limited edition?

Thanks

What does it mean if a handle has a number on it. I

It means it eaither the first few hundred or so of the first "production" sebenza, or a prototype when they did a model change over. If it has an "H" by it, then it was handmade.

A photo would help.

Thanks Dave,

It's not actually mine, I know of someone who owns one. It has neither a P for production nor H for hand made, that's what confused me.

I thought that the numbers on the early models were either P for production or H for handmade, but this one just has the number next to the CR symbol.
Is it usual for just a number to be stamped on the handle not preceeded by any letter?

Also, it does not have a clip, so it is an early model (or a fake - is that common).

Sorry to be asking so many questions, it's just that I'm new to Sebenzas, and I can't seem to get the search function to work.

Thanks again.

It sounds liek that is an early sebenza, the FAQ thread at the top of the page has discussion on numbering.
