Just recieved my first full sized khukri. The 20" sirupati model. I wanted something full size after buying a bilton as my first, to get a proper feel for it. But the weight of the tougher and thicker khukris threw me off a bit. Anyways, I was just wondering what the various symbols mean. The initials KM are stamped on the blade, a star, and a circle with " marks in each direction. I know what the first 2 mean, but cany find any info on the 3rd.. On the other side is stamped U.B. along with characters further up the spine that I'm pretty sure is a translated KM.

The KM stands for KMart. This is a special knife made for the Martha Stewart collection. Those of us in the know don't think much of these. I could get rid of it for you.

Maybe its Martha's prison shank!!!:D

KM is Kumar.
6 pointed star is Kumar.
UB is in memory of Uncle Bill.
Circle is still up in the air for me also. Maybe the wise ones will come along and explain it.

If I remember correctly the sun symbol represents "Himalayan Imports" and the script at the spine is "BirGorkha"

Yup. :D
Well almost anyway. The writing at the spine stands for Hee Eee which stands for Himalayan Imports.
When it's a HI Villager then it stands for BirGhorka.

yeah, I was curious about the circle with four apostrophes sticking out of it.

There are also some little marks on my AK's buttcap which may just be scratches or which may be initials in nepalese or whatnot. I was wondering it they were initials since the last two characters seem to be an H and an I, but the preceding marks are not from the roman alphabet.

I'll try to get a picture later on.

I don't think we ever did figure out what the sun symbol meant.

Aardvark I'm pretty sure that Miss Yangdu said it was to designate that the khukuri was indeed an HI.
Some of the other khuk houses started putting on their own logos and a few folks were thinking they were genuine HI's IIRC.
