First, the story: There were a lot of people waiting for this medallion so I asked that when BirGorkha got five or so completed to send them rather than wait until the entire run was complete. This way not all would have to wait so long.
So, in one of the parcels I received yesterday, sure enough, there was a roll of medallions rolled up just like a roll of quarters -- the entire run. As I said, the staff of BirGorkha does not always listen to old Uncle Bill!
After I get all packed and shipped I'll have three left in case anybody wants one call or email. They are $30 delivered.
Now to the update.
Looking at the 12 o'clock high mark and moving clockwise.
Full sun -- Sher, maker of HEAVY blades.
6 pointed star -- Kumar, brother of Sher -- specialty: Light blades and swords
Half sun -- Kesar, oldest employee at BirGorkha and very steady
The cross -- Sanu, recognized for consistent excellence
The Trisul -- Murali who I have yet to meet -- experienced and very capable
I am not sure what this mark is but I think it is a temple. It is a new mark assigned to one of the new kamis but I am not sure which one.
The khukuri -- this was the mark of Prakash who has left BirGorkha for a career of chasing women. The mark is being recycled to one of the new kamis, but again, I do not yet know which one.
Quarter moon -- Bura, the old master and BirGorkha foreman. The best.
Marks surrounded by two opposing dragons as you can probably see. Backside lavishly engraved. Edge is hatchmarked.
The slugs are made by a couple of different kamis in BirGorkha and the engraving is done by Bhimsen, Bura's oldest son and he has done an excellent job.
And that's how the medallion looks today. I suspect there will be a couple of additional marks very soon and we will update accordingly.
And yes, DanK, I am shipping yours!
